Agility training questions I really want to work with my girls on agility. I'm attending classes now to become a certified dog obedience trainer/ We've learned skills training but no real information about the competions. Does anyone on here compete or train? I would LOVE to hear suggestions and receive guidance. |
I was looking into agility myself, I'd love to start this summer. I know they have to have basic obedience before attending any agility courses. It's good my Pep is of good weight for that - he's not that small and loves tunnels and jumping and bringing stuff (I have a play tunnel for cats - about 5 ft length and he loves running through it :) ). Please give some updates as it is a great activity!! |
Agility www.akc.org/events/agility/index.cfm Have a look at the above site for starters. Good luck, it's great fun and if you muck up you're still getting exercise, having fun and meeting friendly doggies and their people. |
Since I'm studying to do basic obedience can I teach them myself or do I have to prove I took them somewhere? I want to teach them myself and compete with my Zsa-Zsa. I think Eva will be too small but I'm going to train her anyway just so she has good skills. I love watching those pups run their routines - they are so focused and really look like they enjoy the events. I just think it will be a great bonding experience for the girls and I. |
You need to go to a facility that offers agility beginner, intermediate, advanced then competition. Hook up with that trainer as competition is different that just fun agility. It is timed, sequenced, & has special height jump recommendations etc & your dog must be fast & able to give a "clean" run in order to compete in the AKC. Or perhaps find an agility club in your area that can help you....have fun & good luck1 Lynne |
