Almost Perfect Day, But Better Nonetheless Today Holly almost had a perfect day. I'm not sure if it was the actual spray (Simple Solution Training Aid) or just me thinking it was the spray and being a lot more proactive about the training. She did it on the pad when she woke up, and then peed 5 times on a different pad in another room and pooped twice on that same pad. She took a nap and then bam, she had an accident like 6 inches away from the pad. I'd like to think she was on her way and just didn't make it. LOL Well anyways, I felt like we made some improvements. I have one question though? Do I wait until after she finishes to give her a treat? Cause right after she's done she just runs off. I feel like maybe she'll forget why I am praising her in the first place. What do you guys think? |
I use the Simple Solutions Jump Start pads and they work really well. I always give a treat as soon as they are done going on the pad and make a big deal out of it and say Potty on pad good girl over and over each time. It does get better! |
Thanks for the Reply Patti. I will look for those the next time I am at Petsmart. We have had a couple of accident-free days so she is definitely catching on. |
Nooooooo!!!!! Well we thought we were near completely trained. No accidents for about 4 days. But she has not gone once on the pad since yesterday. And to make matters worse, she ate her poop today, grosssss!. Not all of it but some of it. While I was busy picking it up she ran off with a piece of it. I hadn't noticed but when she turned around the floor was stained from it. (GAG). Anyways, I'm starting over. (SIGH). I'll let you know how it goes. |
Don't get disheartened! My little guy is only 5 months and we have good days and bad days with the potty training, praise is the key, as you'll hear over and over. and YES, the simple solution spray is the best, it really helps even if the pads say they're scented to make them want to go there, the spray is still the driving force I think. Even when Vinnie misses by an inch or two we praise him, we figure he just didn't know his back end was off the pad. I've also noticed that if he does go elsewhere he looks for a cookie, so he does understand to a point. Good luck and let us know how it goes! |
A lot of us struggle with potty training. Our little girl is 7 mos. and does well about 75% of the time, but I caught her trying to sneak into the kitchen to poo yesterday. And she definitely knew where we wanted her to do it. I watched her go into the kitchen 3 times and I followed her each time. Each time, she circled the chair where her "accidents" usually occur and then looked at me and walked back out of the kitchen. Finally, with her tail tucked under, she walked towards the back-door where she is supposed to go to do her business outside, and I said "Outside?" and she waited for me to let her out, then went right to her potty pad on the deck and did her business. I have no idea why she tries to get away with doing it elsewhere, but that is what we are struggling with right now. She used to go just next to the potty pad until we got a pad holder, which is a plastic platform with a fraime around it, so she can't confuse it with the floor. That has helped her to distinguish where the edge of the potty pad begins and the floor ends. |
