Sitting Already? Well...i tried to see if I could get Bentley trained to the word "SIT" tonight with a few treats and even stopped using his treats and started doing it with his stuffed toys...... it worked! but.....he wont respond to the word "SIT" when i dont have something in my hand, or i dont move my hand back behind his head. How do i teach him to sit with nothing in my hand and just saying "SIT"? The Mr. laughed at me because he thinks that Bentley wont retain anything at such a young age *4 months*. Is this true? I keep telling him that he'll get it. All of his grandfathers were champions - I keep using that as my excuse to try to train him early. Thanks for any advise! |
You're right and you're husband is wrong where their learning is concerned. He sure can learn and remember things at his age if it is done on a consistant basis. I used to work with Teddy just 15 minutes each day when he was that age and I could not believe how fast and eager he was to learn new things. It's all about positive reinforcement and building the bond between the two of you. As far as him connecting the word to the action just keep with it and he will get the association with time. I personally when I am teaching use both hand and word commands so they react equally to both after awhile. It's amazing the companion you'll end up with by investing a little time and love. Teddy comes, shakes, high five's, plays dead, rolls over, does circles, fetches and many more things and he learned everything he does before he was 6 months old. Good luck to you and have fun! |
YAY! Its so cute when they are that little listening to commands!!! My boys are 1 year 7 months almost and they know lots of commands for a long time now! Sit, lay, dance, high five, paw, 'kitchen' (where they are locked in when Im not home), 'bed'... its funny cuz I just say one word and boom they are doing it or going there... its cute! Your puppy does have the capacity to learn and retain tricks or commands now! Keep up the good work!!! :D |
Missy learned the "sit" command at 12 weeks... and i spent about 20 mins a day with her... now at 4 months, she does it on command.. don't worry, keep the training up and she'll soon just do it when you ask.. :) good work!!! |
