Barking and Banging Yes....I said Banging.... He's gotten to the point now that if he doesnt want to be in his area *kitchen*, he'll not only bark continuously *we're currently - this moment - going on 20 minutes here with a 2 minute pause*, but he'll bang his legs against the wooden fence. I have a conference call in 20 minutes, and im tempted to let him out when im on the call so that i can actually SPEAK, and then put him back in. But, then he'll think that if he barks enough, I'll let him out. I'm dyin here.....please help |
Here's a question....do they ever get tired of barking? Dont their throats start to hurt? Do they give up? *Yep...he's still going.... 28 minutes now...* |
My lil guy is outside right now in the sun........do you have a deck or a leash to put him outside?? That is the new place for him now, and he loves it. When we get up in the morning after our pottys, thats all he wants to do......after pottying, he goes to the door, I start heading out with him, and he just lays down outside, he loves it. I was so surprised by his loving the outside so much!!! Would that work for you?? |

Wow 15 weeks and he is going for nealy a half an hour of barking? my girl is 7 months now and she barks for 5 mins and she'll get exhausted and fall asleep. The max is 10 mins. No clue how you can get him to stop  lol, but Good luck with your little guy. |
can you maybe give him a treat or something like a bully stick to keep him busy for a little while...... it does help..... he needs something to keep his little mouth busy... |
Wow, thats young. I posted about a month ago about my pup being 3 months and not barking, and the hopes that it was a sign that he wasn't going to bark. But everyone replied that they usually don't find their bark until around the 6 month age, so I wasn't suppose to count my blessings that my guy wasn't barking........he just wasn't old enough. My guy is about 4.5 months old and still doesn't bark...........YAY!!!!!! Here is that post link: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ghlight=barker SOOOOO......unfortunately you just have a YOUNG BARKER, booohoooo!!!! |
Have you tried putting a few coins in a aluminum pop can and taping the hole closed? Whenever he starts barking, roll the can and say "no bark". He will not like the noise, and after a few times should start to associate the barking with the noise of the can. The key is: if he is doing something that you do not like, you do something that he does not like. Just a thought!;) |

What else don't they like? |
I hear one time you can get a spray bottle and put water in it. Everytime they bark squirt them in the nose/mouth area. Just a suggestion.......Blessings |

If that doesn't work I have seen websites with a citronella spray collar, if you get desperate. When the puppy barks it sprays citronella, and the puppy does not like the smell, and it is harmless to the puppy. I do not know very much about the spray collars, but I thought they sounded like it would be something that would work. The collars were around $80 ( I think you can find them for less), but there is the refill spray can that is about $10. Maybe get the refill and see if it works. Just spray the puppy yourself, when he barks, to see if it would be worth the money. I did a google search and found this website http://www.mightypets.com/subcat.asp?0=327 . There are a lot of sites out there, just do a google search and read up on it to see if this is something you might consider. Hope this helps!;) |
Hey Codegirl, Remember me? I was the girl you called last week who was looking for a Yorkie from Denise's Puppy Playhouse. Looks like your landlord backed off... glad to know, you have been on my mind. That really stinks that you have such a barker. :( How did you manage to get the Landlord off your back? And your baby is still barking... good grief. Well, my girlfriend just hired a trainer to come to the house for her pomeranian and this trainer has done wonders with her guy. Also, that famous dog trainer "Shelby Marlo" holds workshops in Santa Monica that are supposed to be great and she has a whole section on dog barking in her brochure. I know you live in LA, so I thought I would give you some info. I pick up my new baby on Saturday... so flipping excited. :p |

I did a little begging and got him to at least be quiet during the evening hours when everyone is home from work. :) Now if i could just convince him to be quiet during the day as well...ha ha! That's cool. I think I'll start looking for some trainers once he hits the big 6 months. I cant wait for 3 weeks to get here so i can start taking him outside! :) I'm so happy you got your baby! Make sure you post lots of photos! Is he being a good boy for you !? |
