I am so confused!!! Jack has been doing so well with using the puppy pads until recently. In the last week, it is like he will walk up to the puppy pad smell, then walk directly off of it and pee about 6 inches from it. It doesn't matter if it is a new one or one he has peed on already. Also, he has had a couple of accidents in other areas of the house as well. Does anyone know why he suddenly refuses to use the pads? He is still doing ok with pooping on it, it is just peeing. I am so frustrated with it. |

Good Luck and don't give up! |
When my senior needed puppy pads, I used Prevail 23"x36" underpads (bought from local drug store). Wide, a huge cost savings and don't have the odor that emits from doggy pads. Worth a try. |

Starting today, every time they have an accident in the house my partener puts them in the porch for ten minutes. They are crying so much while there. Do you think this is ok? |
Have you tried putting them in the kitchen with a gate? It is difficult once they have left marks and unfortunately cleaning does not remove the odor. Not sure if placing them outside after the fact will do much good. They are young and don't understand. I remember being very consistent about taking her outside at regular intervals, and when I wasn't home or busy in another part of the house, gated her with her pee pee pads. It takes a while and they catch on. Good luck. |
It is true that they are hard to train, but the key is to be consistent, praise when they are doing it, and they will get the hang of it. |
I find that my Jack needs to be reminded of the pee pad rules every few months even though he's two now. He'll do fine for a while and then start having accidents. When I notice this happening I get back to: 1. Restricting his water/food times 2. Take him for more walks (if the weather lets us) 3. Bring him to his pad and give him the potty command more often 4. Praise the heck out of him if I catch him doing what he's supposed to. As always he's only given the bedroom and bathroom (where his pad is) at night and while I'm out of the house. It works in just a week or so...he's back to being a good boy. I would be interested in hearing how people do with pad trainned dogs when they are visiting someone. Jack is good at my sisters house which has the same floor plan as mine, but if we are someplace new he usually has an accident. It doesn't make it very easy to travel with him. |
