leaving puppy in living room I was wondering at what age you all started leaving your puppy out when you were gone. Kaya stays in the bathroom now when we are not home and at night which is working well. We live in a 2 bedroom loft and eventually I would like to leave her with access to just the living room and kitchen (not too large). Of course she has to be completely pad trained first, but do those of you who have pee pad trained dogs leave them out and do they always use the pad when your gone? And if so, at what age did you start? Thanks, Ann |
If they are 100% when you are home, then I guess I would try it. Mine are confined to the kitchen all the time, unless I am supervising. I still don't trust them. |
Buddah was doing really well with his pee-pads. so I started letting him roam a much larger area in my living room. but it made him regress and he started pissing everywhere. so I went back to a small space when i am not home. hes only 6 months. |
Harley is going on 9 months and he now has free roam of the whole front of my house which includes kitchen, living room, dining room and his doggy door to outside enclosed porch where his pad is. We started this a couple weeks ago and have not had any trouble. Believe me I was sooo glad to take the ex pen down! |
Joey is 100% trained, but I still confine him to the part of the house that has tile when I'm not here. I figure - why ask for trouble? |
I just took Sadie's ex-pen down this past weekend and she now has the whole kitchen (which is very large) when I'm at work. Only one pee "accident" so far!! It seems WONDERFUL not to have a huge ex-pen in my kitchen! :p |
I think it really just depends on how trustworthy she is. When I'm gone I still leave him in his x-pen simlpy bc I don't trust him . lol My other 5 dogs roam the house w/ no problems most of the time. So I guess I would test her to see how she does. You probably already know the run through w/ making sure there's nothing around that she could gobble up or anything dangerous/poisonous for her to ingest. If you do keep her in the kitchen make sure those low cabinets are all baby locked! Bc these little fuzzies are way too smooth at opening and emptying them! hehe Definately let us know how it goes :) |
Cuddles goes in her crate when ever I leave the house. Then I know she is safe and my carpets and everything else are safe. I think they feel safe also, it is like their den. Blessings |
Ditto Chloe stays in her crate when I'm gone. She's been housebroken since 5 months, (outside potty), but there are so many things she can get into. She is simply safer in the crate. |
If you think he's totally trained I would try it, but I would do it on a day I was home just to see what's going to happen. |
