What's wrong with my Kobe?? Kobe is the sweetest baby ever! He doesnt bark that much (which kind of worries me), he poops and pees EVERYWHERE, but overall he's a good puppy. The thing Im concerned with is that when I call him, he acts scared. He will follow me to certain parts of the house, then stop and wait for me because he's too scared to follow me completely. I will call him (I never call him to disipline him, only for praise or affection) and he wags his tail, but crouches down like he's scared. Is this normal? Should I be concerned. BTW he's almost four months. :aimeeyork |
Without seeing it, it's hard to judge but it sounds like he is trying to show you that he is submissive. Just to make you feel better, you might try carrying small treats on you and give him one every time you call him to you. I bet he'll soon come running! |
Thats exactly what I tried, but it's weird...he wont even come when I have treats! I have to place the treats on the ground...then he crawls over, picks them up, and runs! Actually hurts my feelings a little. LOL :p |
morgan won't come directly to me sometimes as well because she's afraid i'm going to pick her up and take her away from whatever fun she is having. |
It sounds to me like he may not have been well socialized as an infant. Have you tried just sitting on the floor and coaxing him to you with a treat, or even lying on the floor and letting him come to you. don't even look at him, just lie there, maybe whimper to make him curious. |
That's exactly what I thought! My aunt purchased her yorkie around the same time as me, from a different breeder (theyre the same age) and her yorkie comes and is not timid at all. I guess I'm worried because I've had him since he was about 10wks and I figured by now, he would be "normal". Is there any way to "cure" the social anxiety?? |
The only thing that I can think of is to just let him come to you, when you are on the floor and not so intimidating as you are when you're standing over him. if he is a submissive personality, making eye contact with him can seem intimidating. Does he eat treats from you hand if you are holding him? |
No...it really weird. I'm not sure if he's fumbling with the treats...or just refuses to eat them until I set them down. |
