His whining is driving me crazy---help! Okay, so Im cleaning the house like I always do on the weekends. While I clean, I put Izzy in his crate. Naturally, so he doesnt get in the way. My place is small, so I can move him to each room Im in so he can see me and not feel abandoned. He has been whining for the past hour and it is driving me nuts!! What do I do to stop him? He has treats and toys in his crate and he can see me very well. Help!:( |
I don't use a crate - so I'm not sure what to tell you (but I wanted to say, "hi").... Why not just let him stay out? Mine hate the vaccuum and hide as soon as they see it!! |
Hi Jodie! I tried leaving him out but gets into everything and he follows me everywhere. It would take me all day to clean up. I dont have carpet so when I sweep he gets into the dirt piles, he climbs into the clothes basket etc.:p I tried the ex pen too and he just whines. Eventually he quiets down but it takes a while. When do you guys want to get together again? I would love to see the little ones! |
If you are trying to "crate train" then just ignore the whining. He will figure it out. I have had my Izzy 1 week and 1 day. When I first put her in the crate she whined like crazy. After 2 days she figured it out. She goes in there at night easily now and sleeps all evening. I can even put her in there several times a day for naps and she is fine with it. Sometimes she whines just a bit if she wants to play but she will figure it out that I am not opening the door and she will play with her toys. Don't give in.:D |
Leave him in the crate so he can learn to deal with it. He'll never learn otherwise. That would be like putting a child in a playpen, then moving it to each room while you clean. It would be better to teach the dog a needed skill, i.e., that sometimes he's going to have to deal with being crated, than to keep giving in to the whining. Another thing, teach the word "NO" and enforce it. That helps alot when you're trying to sweep, I know, I have wood floors too! |
We have been cruel to be kind. Our Louie 7 week old whined everytime we left him in the room (we have a stairgate as we have a staffie, would'nt want Louie to get trod on) :D He now realises that we are going to come back and now just wanders of playing with his toys, also that its OK to sleep in his warm fluffy bed rather than daughters arms :rolleyes: as she will be there when he wakes.
