Ceramic tile help? I'm in the middle of picking out ceramic for the kitchen. I have 4 different pieces trying to make that final decision in which one to choose. She's chewed 2 holes in the lenolium, so its got to go. My question is will pee get stuck in the grout? She aims for the potty pads but sometimes is off a little. Now poo....she's a walking pooper. By the time she finishes circling, she's off the pad. Then before she finishes she starts "walking off". Is ceramic ok? Or will the grout stain, and smell? She'll be 9 months old March 11th. |
I'm curious to know this also We are taking up our carpets this spring & are thinking of replacing it with ceramic tile. My babies for the most part are housetrained but they will occasionally have an accident, or just get lazy on me and not go outside. |
Oh, my carpet goes next! I have pee pads in the living room, and sometimes she'll go on them, and sometimes miss them, and sometimes not pee anywhere near them at all! |
If your tile is sealed properly and you keep it up when you're supposed to then nothing should penetrate the sealant so the grout should be fine. Now, if you don't seal the grout then yes, it will stain and possibly absorb smells too. As for the walking off the pad...have you tried putting the pad inside a doggie litter pan? That worked for us...Riley wasn't sure at first so I put his used pad in the litter pan and then he got the idea of what it was for. Good luck! |

I'm not crazy about the Granite Mausaleum looking stuff ...my husband did that before he got sick and got WAY carried away with the Granite ....but this is my den & Kitchen after pics...I took these right before they finished the kitchen |
My new home I've found has not been sealed in the tiled areas so it has stained a few spots where the grout is. Otherwise the tile is awesome.. just make sure you seal it up! :) |
We have ceramic tile and it's not been a problem, but we do now keep her pee pee pads in the Purina litter box. Wrigley circles and is a walker too and box has been great! |
Litter pans don't seem to work for Venus, she hates going in them. She will pee right in front, or beside them. She will also pee on a rug in the bathroom, and its a light color, with a lot of shag, so its hard to see the wet spots. If I could just keep her in the kitchen, she'll usually go on the pad in there. But she's also been chewing up the lenolium in the kitchen. Oh well, that lenolium needs to come up anyway. |
I've found that you can put Vick's Salve on something they're chewing and usually they won't go back to it. It's something most people have in the medicine cabinet, too. A whiff or too usually will change the dog's mind about chewing on that particular spot. |
Most of my 1st floor is tile and I LOVE it. I know you aren't supposed to, but I mop it with bleach water and there is never an odor or stain. |
I have ceramic tile with grout. Sometimes the grout looks a little darker after a wee-wee accident. But if you scrub it up really good with some Lemon Fresh Pine Sol or something like that, it will eventually dry and you won't see it anymore. |
