I need your help. 1st time dog owner
 
Hi,
I am a first time dog owner. I was the type that didn't like dogs AT ALL until I started observing the various yorkies around my neighborhood and their personalities. All it took was that for me to change my mind and fall in love with yorkies!!...anyway.

I got my little guy 4 weeks ago and I have been trying to potty train him to go to his wee wee pad however, he sometimes goes to it and sometimes he doesn't!
I let him walk around my apartment (with me only) and at times he has done it on my floor and carpet. I always bring a wee wee pad to whatever room im in so he uses it but as I said before he might use it but he might just do it on the floor. Everytime he does his business outside the wee wee pad I yelled at him "BAD PUPPY" and put him in the wee wee pad but that hasnt help. He is going to be 12 weeks on Sunday. What should I do???? HELP!

Hi! and welcome to Yt. First off.. it is going to take MUCH longer than 4 weeksn to potty train him. My baci took forever. And still i dont let him have full run of the house and he is a year old. I did however, buy belly bands, which helps alot. He knows where he has to go now but he still gets excited and drips when he doesnt mean it.

Just stick with a routine. LOTS of praise and treats when your lil one goes in the right place. He/She may just be to young yet to get there in time!

when you say "full run of the house" does that mean he never gets to walk around your house AT ALL not ? im not clear what people mean by that. thanks in advance.

I agree with BacisMom. Don't give him full run of the house restrict him to an area. And it will take awhile but hang in there

Limit the dogs access to only a certain room of the house. If you do allow the dog in other rooms only do so if your there and able to keep an eye out. If you do this I would recommend a bad in each room until your baby gets a little older

First of all congradulations on becoming a pet owner. I to just got a baby yorkie -- Matties almost 16 weeks. Here is what we have done to train him to use the wee wee pads. We picked a corner in our living room for him to do his business and have left the pads there. We started with numerious pads ( I also have them in the bathroom which is where he goes in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning). Anyway -- we put a little bit of his pee on the wee wee pads and left it there so he would know. And then whenever he did go on the pads we made a really big deal out of it and gave him a treat -- which is one piece of his puppy chow in a candy dish with a lid. He know know the sound of the lid coming off. I would remove the used pad but mark a new one with a spot of pee. Now he goes just to get the treat and I don't have to mark the pads anymore. You are doing the correct thing when he doesn't go on the wee wee pads by telling him no and taking him to the wee wee pads.

he only gets full run of the house when someone is home who can watch him.
