Crate Training? My little 5-mos old yorkie is still not potty-trained, and has made life difficult, especially in a newly-carpeted place. I tried crate training her, and she goes through the night without giong to the bathroom, but when we try to leave her unattended during the day (for about 3 hours) and leave her in the crate, she wets herself in the crate (happened three times in a row) -- probably because she knows she's alone. I stopped putting her in the crate during the day when we're gone, but the crate-training during the night hasn't taken any affect. Any advice? |
I just would make sure she doesn't have room to avoid it. They will not do it if they have to sit in it. ( unless breeder kept them in crate all the time) She should only have enough room in the kennel to stand up and turn around. Good luck! hth |
I've read in my yorkie books that you shouldn't have too high of expectations before 6 months of age because sometimes their bladder hasn't fully developed. My boy Griffin is almost 6 months old and is not completely potty trained yet. He knows he is supposed to go outside, but if we don't take him out often enough, it is just impossible for him to hold it. I am hoping that will change as he gets older. Bentley did better at the potty training, but I remember he was not 100% trained (never having an accident) until 7 months. (Griffin is the same way with the crate. For some reason, it is such a scary place for him (he is a high anxiety dog) and he will pee every time he is in there) |
