Help please with Taki's tinkles Hello! I brought this baby home two days ago. He was a complete surprise. We've been working on the pee pad thing... with no luck. I've read to watch him wander, and if he starts to go, stop him, say no, and bring him to the pee pad. We've been ok to this point... but when i stop him and put him down on the pad, he doesn't want to go and forgets until the next time. We have only had success one time. Any advice... we'd love some help! Maria:) |
He's still a puppy and doesn't understand what you want him to do. Keep up with the training, though. He'll eventually get it. I just had to throw out an area rug yesterday from my London. She's 14 months old and still goes on the rug during the night. She thought she was slick...NOT! BTW...yorkies are the hardest (in my opinion) to completely train. |

Do you have an x-pen or doggie playpen to keep him in? Giving a puppy free run of the house while trying to house train isn't a good idea...it will make it so much more difficult. Try keeping him in a puppy pen of some kind with his bed, food, water, pads and a couple of toys and you'll be amazed at how fast he may learn. If you want to train him to go outside then you might try crate training instead of using the pads. |
answers to the posts, and thank you! Thanks everyone! That was great advice! some answers..I keep him in the kitchen confined to the room with all his things while i'm at work. I don't expect compliance then.. because i'm not around. And in the room i keep his open crate. which we tried to keep him in twice and he yelped for hours. So i don't think i can use a crate technique until he likes it again. (he was sent from oklahoma in it, maybe he has bad memories of the air cargo thing) He always does have to go again, but we go through the same routine.. i think he won't do it while i'm watching... what do you think? |
