Still going the bathroom in crate Hello all! I'm still having difficulty with Diesel going the bathroom in his crate. We've had him for a month now and I just want to make sure I'm teaching him correctly. Sometimes he's goes on the pad and other times on the rug. Then at night he is continuing to go in his crate. We recently made it smaller but that hasn't helped. Do I need to make sure to feed him earlier and make sure he goe the bathroom before bed? What's happening is he ends up falling asleep and i don't know if we should wake him or not to try and get him to go. This morning I heard him jingling the door around 5 and got up to see if he'd go. He did, so I put him back in. Was it a good/bad idea for me to do that? Any suggestions are really appreciated. I'm just worried that if he doesn't get it while he's young, he will continue this behavior as an adult. Thanks for your help! Elizabeth |
Yes, I suggest letting him out before he sleeps for the night, even if he is asleep. Throughout the day, try to let him out every hour or so and see if he needs to go. If he jingles the door wanting to go, and DOES, praise him lavishly. It's good if he can associate jingling with needing to pee, but he needs to know that you will get him and let him pee when he jingles. :) |
