battling with nail cutting =( please please help me with this! it's so hard for me to cut my dogs nails because they're so terrified of the nail clippers. every time i bring out the nail clippers they both run and hide, but when i do try to attempt to cut their nails they both wiggle, kick, or cry. is there a way that i can train them to be calmer? or at least show them not to be scared of the nail clippers? oh yeah, it's not just the nail clipper they fear, its also when i touch their feet and paws. every time i hold them, and play with their paws, they wiggle away or kick my hands away. does anyone have any tips about that? or anyone out there can relate with me? |
I started using a dremel rather than clippers. We still have to hold them snug, but they don't scream and it is much easier than clipping, plus you don't need to worry about bleeding. |
Try wrapping them up in a towel taking one leg out at a time to trim nails. |

If you decide to use a dremel, be VERY, VERY careful. It will wrap the dogs hair around it and pull it out quicker than you even notice. Put the dogs feet in a nylon stocking, letting just the nails stick thru. I just use a really rough emery board on my dogs now. |

Someone here also suggested to me, to clip right after a bath, that way the nails don't make that clicking sound that scares them. |
