What tricks does your yorkie know? Hi Everyone. Lucky is two years old and learns very quickly. I have been teaching her a new trick every week since we adopted her and I'm running out of ideas. So far she knows lay, sit, stay, roll over, crawl, wait, and shake. I am curious to know what tricks you have taught your yorkies, especially if they are creative and/or unique. Also, if you taught your yorkie a neat trick, how did you teach it? |
toby is only 8 months old...... so i havent been getting "really into training" yet, i will be training like a madwoman come summer time when i dont go to college anymore, ...... he knows SIT, and DOWN, and STAY, and COME (the basics) but he only does these things for ME, if his daddy telling him to COME , toby just looks at him like "who the hell are you????You cant tell me what to do".... it may sound funny, but it really isnt, i want him to listen to commands not just me asking him commands |
Teddy is almost 5 months old and is the biggest little ham I have ever encountered in all my life of having dogs. So, far he sit's, shakes, lays, comes, rolls over, does high 5's, does circles, plays bang bang your a dead dog, plays peek, plays fetch, knows the word off, knows the word touch, and can beg like a little bandit. Our next tricks up are to teach him how to bow and how to dance like that little dog Odie in the Garfield movie. My daughter is 12 and into agility with a friend of mines Corgis and it is our hope that by this fall he will also begin working with her in a puppy agility class after he finishes up with his obedience classes. |
Leila knows sit, stay, lay down, roll over, crawl like GI Jane (ha ha), shake, gimme five, and balancing a treat on her nose, tossing it in the air, and catching it. She also knows get down, go in the kitchen, go lay down, not to run out the door when it is open, and not to take anything from your hand until you say okay. Gidget knows sit, stay (sortof) lay down, roll over (sort of), go lay down (sort of) and we are working on not running out the door when it is open, and not taking anything from your hand until you say okay. I just got her the Monday before Christmas and she had NO training whatsoever at almost three years of age!!! I am proud of how far she has come. I can't teach her shake though. I tried once and she freaked out when I touched her paw and hid under the rocking chair in the corner. |
Max knows: Sit, Stay, Come, Down (Lay), and kinda knows roll over... he basically lays on his back and wait for a belly rub! He also knows how to play fetch and Let Go of whatever he is fetching. He is only a little over 3 months old so he is not perfect but about 85% of the time he does what I command. I want to teach him to crawl, dance, shake, sing and bow. Lets just say I want him to know a lot! But he is a wiz-kid so it should be fun! |
She's great at: 1. pee and poop in the house 2. eat woodwork and wall 3. chew toes and fingers 4. drive Cinder (big dog) crazy...... Actually, she is learning to sit, fetch and sometimes go potty outside. :) |
Reagan knows sit, down, stay, she's a little shakey on come (I haven't really worked with her much on it), bow, speak, stand, and leave it, she won't touch someething until you say get it. She also knows that she is supposed to continue doing something until I say ok. I'm working on dance. And I'm so jealous of those who know roll over, Reagan hates this one. I've tried several different ways, none worked and now as soon as I say roll over she hops up and takes off. She also knows that "go find Jody" means to go find my husband (we're teaching her to find me next) and what Jody's home means. As soon as I say Jody's home she pops up and stands there really quiet to hear for his truck, I guess to see if I'm lying. Of course this one isn't really a command but its cute none the less. |
Magic knows a lot of little tricks...sit, come, stay, stand, dance, high 5, and bring (for her balls, sometimes)...Sailor, on the other hand, only knows...sit, come, stay, and stand....for some reason Magic does better at training, I really think it has to do with her age...she is a little bit older than Sailor and really seems to understand what I am saying!!! |

Remmy is my smartie...he loves to please and will learn anything for a treat. He knows sit, stay, down, come, heel, shake, rollover, leave it, wait, get the ball, kennel. Kennel is I say the command and he goes and gets in his kennel. He knows that when I go get his leash he is going for a walk cuz he will go sit by the door. In the mornings when I am getting ready for work he knows when Iam done cuz he will go and get in his kennel without me even telling him. He will just sit in there and wait for me to shut the door. Silk on the other hand hides underneath my bed and will only kennel sometimes. we are working on alot with her. She is not as eager to please as Remmy but she is very food motivated and smart. Hefner knows sit, down, beg, roll over (almost) come, fetch, speak, dance, and shake. We are working on stay and bang bang, you're dead. Chai knows sit, come, dance, pretty girl, twirl. We are working on down and roll over and stay. |

This is how I read to teach them...You make them lie down then hold the treat in front of them a little ways really close to the ground. They should try to move towards it and if they try and stand to move them you put your hand on the back and don't let them stand. They way they will have to crawl to get it. As they crawl you move the treat away. It didn't work with Reagan at all though. My bloodhound could and would do it for a while and this is how I taught her. But you can try this way and maybe some one will also have another way for you to try. |
Also here's asite that I used to use. They don't have tons of tricks but they do give pretty good advice on how to teach your dogs the ones they do have. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/P.../indexorg.html |
I noticed that Leila would stretch in the "bow" position, then drag her body forward and crawl to rub her belly on the rug. So when I noticed her doing that, I would say "Crawl like GI Jane!" really excitedly and she would come to me and I'd praise her. So now she does it on command! Easiest trick to date, LOL. |
