how many of you feel... Like you did just about EVERYTHING wrong from the get go? Not because you didnt know but because they were so darn cute and tiny as puppies that you didnt want to be strict and now you are paying for it with defiant, untrained full grown Yorkie dogs? I wish I could go back in time and knew then what I know now. |
here i am!!! paying for it now..... |
haha.. that's us... when she was little she was "too small to be left alone" now... we can't leave her alone... what a mess we've created! |
We definitely pay for it with our Jewels. You are not alone |
Cali was very easy from day one but feeding her I made all kinds of mistakes due to her many illnesses. With Pixie I had her 1 night and made every mistake since she wasn't trained and did not want to be in her playpen. I am trying to be stricter after talking to her Breeder and from advice on here. It is so hard but if I don't get her trained and use to her crate we will all be unhappy. So wish me luck! |
I was never strict with the potty training bc I never SAW them do it, so I didnt know how to punish it, so now I have 2 boys who are still not fully house broken at 1 year 5 months old! ARRGG I gotta say though, for about 8 - 9 months now, they have known how to sit, lay, high 5, give paw and dance (get up on their hind legs and twirl around - soooo cute!!) they learned everything soooo fast! They also love love love their harnesses and sit still while I put them on them. They go to bed no problem and most of the time sleep through the night (one is a bit of a night wanderer though). I wish I was able to cut down on the whining a bit. Sometimes my little guy will just walk around and whine for NO reason, I think he likes the sound of his voice! The chewing phase was TOUGH!! Many shoes went down to yorkie teeth, and socks and my cabinets and baseboards, etc... It has subsided quite a bit thank god. Now time to evaluate the damage! I don't have barking problems with them .. that I KNOW of! haha I did get 2 letters of complaint from neighbors saying they bark when Im at work all day :( we are working on that though! Other than that, when I read on here it makes me soo grateful that my boys are healthy, happy and totally normal pups! Minus the housebreaking, they are extremely intelligent and soo eager to please! I couldn't have asked to be more blessed! But they are needy little things! :D :D |
Me here, but we're paying for it in vet bills more than misbehaving. I did it wrong from where I bought her, so now we'll pay in medical bills because whoever bred her was irresponsible and didn't care enough to health test. I also did housetraining all wrong, so 8 years later we still have accidents. A doggie door and some proper training (positive reinforcement!) fixed that, but we've been having to keep the doggie door closed to keep one of our cats in, and we have accidents every day. *sigh* Barking is another thing we never got under control, but fortunately she only barks when she's trying to communicate something (had I trained her right we could've used other methods of communication. Now because she barks for EVERYTHING I'm never quite sure what she wants!). Everything I've done wrong is why I'm here-- to try and stop other people from making the same mistakes, right down to where they get their Yorkies from. |
My husbands calls the girls "the little demon seeds!" does this answer your question!! LOL |
We refer to Rockie as "El Diablo"--he's a demon when he wants to be but I have to say though it sounds crazy, I'm a bit jealous of the attention they seek from you. I totally coddled Rockie as a pup--he substituted for the third child we never had but now he pretty much acts like a cat wanting to be left alone--doesn't prefer to sit next to anyone. The only time he wants attention is for play time and that's when he turns into the demon because if Rockie can't get your attention with HIS toys, he'll get attention with OURS! Thanks to the Yorkie Forum, I have finally been able to at least teach him to "trade" for items rather than running after him or chasing him outside. I don't know how you all are able to teach all of the tricks--I've only been able to teach him to sit--and not stay mind you--just sit. :p |
I'm a newer yorkie mommy and I will try hard to train from the start. They are SO cute and affectionate it's hard to be firm. I GLAD I found this post-thank you |
Me too. And I tried to do all the right things...most of the time! The only things "Betty McRotten" remembers are the times when I didn't do the right thing! If she sees me chewing, forget it!! I have to hide! LOL |
Well.........That was Starr. SO spoiled:laugh: We didn't know any better! As ignorant as we were, she did not turn out to be a horrible monster or anything, but she did bark her fool head off all the time, and she did have an accident in the house here and there (Mostly when it was raining, ha!) I'd listen to her yap the rest of my life if I could have her back, though:( Now with the two new girls, *I* know better, but I'm fighting against my husband who thinks that I'm too strict:rolleyes: GO figure:laugh: I'm doing my best to raise well behaved young ladies, so far so good:) |
guilty here too but I wouldnt trade my babies for anything. but I know better for next time :) |
Yes, I did spoiled my Momiji. I am currently teaching her to stay home alone and she is doing very well. But I should have done it from the day one. Also I should have teach her to use crate for a nap.... She prefer on the couch with me.... Other than that she is perfect!!!! |
Training---UGHHHHHHHHHH Hi, I also am going thru some tuff times training Nene'. He was doing okay with the crate thing after 1 mth when I got him, but then I had a situation at my place where I had to stay with my mom and leave him while I was taking care of my place. So when I finally got back to my place again he didn't want to go back to the crate thing at night. He started crying and barking and jumping and going crazy the whole night long again. So now I leave him in the hallway where I normally leave him when I step out but with my bedroom door closed since he was being a little chewer in my bedroom (furniture, etc). At first he still complained like crazy but now he just wakes me up by 8 am to 9am even if I don't have to get up and barks and stratches and crys at the door. Another huge problem I have is him barking at every sound he hears coming from the neighbors and other dogs leaving their apartments. He goes berksirk whenever he hears other dogs outside the door and runs and constantly barks like crazy at the door. I am having a terrible time trying to to make him stop which is driving me crazy. His potty training is also unpredictable, he does okay one moment and the next he can decide he wants do it #2 anywhere he pleases. Also he doesn't wait for me sometimes to place the newspaper down. He still does it in the same area but no newspaper, especially when Im cleaning up after him. I desperately want to go to "Obedience school". Notice I say I want to go to obedience school. :D So that we can both be trained before I go back to work or school. Otherwise I love Nene' to pieces he's my baby and at times my pain in the butt.:aimeeyork ;) Maria |
