Barking Yesterday we got a 5 month old male, and the breeder said he is not a barker but he seems to say alot more then we all expected. So, my question is what are some good tips to train him not to bark? He does not really bark at people outside but if I leave the room and he is on the bed he will bark until I get back. Thanks for the advice |
Pippa used to bark alot, the vet said to spray water at her and say no, this worked very quickly! |
WHAT ??! i cant understand this due to Brownie barking  ! |
your too funny,, i wish the water bottle helped me, lexi loved it.. nothing helped me, she still barks like crazy all night long.. i have to threaten her... the penny thing didnt work either.. but when i put my fist up to her, she knows to stop and two seconds later shes barking again. i cant win ... i cant win |
barking Duffy used to bark and whimper (whine) if I left him in his pen. I got an empty water bottle and put some marbles in it. When he started the crying /barking routine I went back in and shook the bottle really hard about a foot from his face and said NO. I only had to do this 2 times. He is a quiet boy now! Good luck! |
Give him time to adjust , he just arrived yesterday . |

The barking you descibe, ie barking when you leave the room, will mostly likely diminish on it's own. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just be careful not to reinforce it by going back to him when he barks. |

I am so glad we are all in this together. The water idea--yeah--didn't work for us---the dog was practically dripping while still barking. What did work for us (but may not if you crate train your dog) is the "kennel". When he wouldn't stop barking we gave him a warning for "kennel" and then when he continued, he was picked up and put in his crate with a "no bark" statement. Now when he starts to bark, I will give him the "kennel" warning and he runs outside and barks at whatever he saw out there. It has really cut things down. Good luck! bradyem:aimeeyork |
We have been working with him and he is doing great! We also put a chair next to the bed so he can use that to get from the bed to the floor w/ out a big jump. He is a very fast learner. Just some other things to work on like when we are outside and the neighbor cats tease him, and eating his poop... |
