agressiveness and spaying? About 3 days ago my female 6 month old puppy Sydney started showing some scary signs of agressiveness. Anytime we did anything that she didn't like even a little...for example taking her tee-shirt on or off...she would bite. She took a pretty good chunk of skin out of my thumb. I had already scheduled her appointment to be spayed this week (yesterday). I am hoping that the behavioral changes were caused by her adult hormones kicking in and that it would improve once she got spayed. Granted this is only her first day after the surgery...but she bit this morning because we tried to take something out of her mouth that she shouldn't have. :( Has anybody had similar problems? Any advice? |
I heard that getting a female spayed will not help with her aggression. It only works with males. However, you need to stop the behavior ASAP. I'm more dominating than my yorkies and they know that. They know I'm the boss so they usually don't try things like that with me eventhough I have a very dominate female. |
My breeder have had an aggressive female spayed , she calm down a lot . If it change the character of a male , I can't see why it couldn't change a female's character . |
suggestions? Any suggestions as to how to stop the behavior? We've tried the spraybottle, putting her in her crate when she is bad, a light tap on the butt...nothing is working. I'm still hoping it is hormonal...she seemed like she was having mood swings. One moment she would be all kisses...and the next she would be rolling around on her back trying to chew your arm off for no reason. |
I called my breeder on my cell phone ,and just reporting to you what she said , she told me that females are more prone to mood swings . It might help to have her spay . Also when she'll retire from breeding she will keep one or two males because they are cuddlers . |
Magic seemed to get very aggressive right before we had her surgery...we think it was that she was about to go into heat...but after her surgery she has gotten better, she still has her moments but the older she gets the calmer she gets.... |

IMO a puppy is never aggressive . I have a litter of 6 weeks old pups , you should see how rough they play . For some it might sounds scary but they are only showing each others where their rank in the hierarchy is . |
