Chewing cords Hard as I try, I cannot supervise Gracie every second. She has nearly chewed through the phone cord that goes to my puter. She goes after electrical cords every chance she gets. It is impossible to get them entirely out of her reach. I have tried duct taping them to the carpet to try to keep her away from them, but she has figured out how to pull the tape off. Has anyone purchased any cord covers that are chew proof? I have some for my puter cables that I am certain Gracie would chew through in an instant. Telling her "no" meets with deaf ears of course! I guess I could return to keeping her in a harness and on a lead secured to me rather than letting her have run of the house, but she so loves to play with the kitties! What to do? |
Keep her tethered to you for about a month. This way she won't be on her own to do those things. Then when she get's her freedom back, walk around with her to keep an eye on her. If she starts getting interested in a cord, just have a can of marbles or rocks handy and shake it, or just make the ack ack sound real loud. |
I put bitter apple gel on my cords when the puppies started chewing on them and they havent since. You may wanna try this first. |
Three and a half words for you: clear roll-on deodorant! It will stay on the cords much longer than Bitter Apple and works just as well. |
makes you wonder if they ever get a little shock -? never heard of the deodorant, I'm going to try that, mine has found that phone cords taste good, along with cabinetry, floor moldings, kitchen chairs and bookcases... My whole house is going to smell like 'fresh scent' deodorant, wish me luck!!! :) |
Thanks for the help. I now remember I have a bottle of "phooey" that I had totally forgotten about, probably bought it in anticipation of needing it for times like these! Gracie hates the stuff. One lick and she shakes her head and runs off! Now about the deodorant, is the scented gel kind OK or does it need to be unscented roll-on? |
1 Attachment(s) I've used the deoderant trick for a long time. I got Venus in August, and immediately, she started chewing. You can tell what I missed with deoderant, cause she's chewed it. I was determined she wasn't going to get my laptop cord though. |
i used bitter apple with morgan. The first night i had her home she decided to go on a tasting spree around my room. so i put her in her pen and sprayed everything that was touching the ground (cords, desk legs, coffe table legs, yoga mat book case, sneakers, etc) with Bitter Apple. Then i took her back out and let her finish her tasting spree. That lasted all of 5 seconds. And she hasn't chewed anything since. She's now 9 months old and i don't have a chewed up anything in my house :) |
this made me crack up!.... the little devils! :D :D Quote:

Your picture is hilarious! Thanks for the laugh. |
My husband put the cords under the carpet and tacked it down to the baseboard in the room wher it was accessible to her. |
yeah bitter apple, cody will still go for the cords but when i show him the bottle, and spray one spritz he makes a run for it |
