Tearing apart pee pads!! help! Belle is the culprit of tearing apart pee pads and of course Baloo will chime in towards the end. We really need any suggestions on how to make them stop. They have toys, bedding, food, water in their area (the kitchen) and a pee pad. I just don't know how to make them stop tearing it apart. I fear that they'll ingest the plastic or choke on it. They mainly due this when hubby or I aren't in the same room as them and of course when we're gone at work during the day. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks Friley |
How about trying the reuseable pads from Valethics? There's a thread or two with a link to the website. I LOVE them! |
Do your pads have baking soda in them? My kids will shred the pads with baking soda. I have no idea why -- go figure. |
You could also get a peepad holder. They have them at Petco and Petsmart |
my lil one did the same thing. it was a stage i think. every once in a blue moon we will come home and find the pee pad a lil torn up.. but much less now that he is a lil older |
its funny cause the pee pad is in the holder! Belle is really good at pulling it apart and has even learned how to take the holders off....:( Thats when Baloo jumps in. We think its a behavior issue to get attention. If we put them in the kitchen to eat for 15 min and then take them out to play they won't eat and will instead destroy things! Once they're in their kennel or we're in the kitchen with them, its like well hi we were just rearranging a little. And they've got cloth and plastic smeared around their heads and mouths! If I wasn't angry at them I'd be laughing :)! I think we're going to try those washable pads I found the website. As to the baking soda, I really don't know, they're the jumpstart kind. But again I just think they hate being alone cause they only do it when we're at work, and this is the first time we've actually caught them in the act. Thanks for the help! it was really quick! |
cody does the same thing. at first we used the arm and hammer pads, which are thinner and it was fine. when we switched to another thicker one, all he had to do was use his paw and get a it, and he did chew up the cotton. i got a wee wee pad holder and i spray the frame and the insides with bitter apple. and he's getting better....but we watch him like a hawk now, every time he goes to the wee wee pad and if he even come close to destryoing it then i'll give him a firm no and distract his attention with a treat. |

Oh yeah........I've contemplated getting the cloth ones, but I think I'm just gonna start training her to go outside. I'm afraid that she'll get confused and pee on some other article of clothing or pillow or whatever that may be on the floor. |
Mine just occasionally tear one up too. I don't know what possesses them to suddenly tear a pee pad to shreds when they normally leave them alone. It has always been a used one so I wonder if they occasionally smell something that sets it off? Who knows -- but I may order the Valethnics ones soon myself. I just am not so sure about having unwashed ones lying about. |
When I first started using the pads, Venus would tear them up. I got mad, duct taped all 4 corners to the floor really good! After that, she'd try to get it up and couldn't. I think after about a month or so of taping them, I quit. She didn't try to shread them. Go figure! |
