Family is Killing my Training! Hi all, it has been a month or so since I last posted. I recently made the big move home with my little 6 month old baby! We are so happy to be home with the family, but I am very frusterated because they do not seem to understand the importance of being consistant with her potty training! She has been a complete angel to train and picked up on the pee pads like a genuis. Our new home is huge with 3 different levels, so it is really important the little one is watched at all times (for safety and training.) I try and stress this to them, but it just is'nt resinating! We have been home for a month now and I am so proud of how well she is doing. She stoped pooping in her pen during the day and now holds it until the evening, and she consistantly goes poop every morning. We now have a backyard so she has been pooping outside 90% of the time which is excellent. She is still young and doesnt always signal she needs to go, so I am just very aware of her body signs and timing. I have been noticing that the only "accidents" that happen are when my family is watching her. I am not sure how exactly to get through to them on this issue. I am very clear on her sceduale because she predictably goes poop twice a day and sure enough they dont listen to me and she misses a pee pad or goes on a rug. (we have another dog who's scent is on this particular rug). Any suggestions?? Similar issue? My baby is smart but I fear that they might screw her up and this will become an on-going bad habbit. |
Mine is the same age. She hold it quite good and knows where to go; yet sometimes she will make mistakes especially if I am not close to the door. She sometimes ring the bell, sometimes just give me that "look and run" as her potty signal. If you missed that signal; accident happen. I guess it is what I call learning. The bell helps and obidience class also helps. See my previous post about the bell http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...highlight=bell |
I think training a dog is easier than re-training family to help! Stay all over family's butts! When they think your off their butt, and you see an accident, hop back on thier butts. Seems one of the worst problems I see here is family not training like their supposed to. Its a family thing. Take away computers, cell phones, sex, whatever it takes. If all else fails try confining her to a room that you stay in most of the time, and hopefully it doesn't have carpet. I know 2 days ago the Target here, had baby gates for $12.98. I got one that had a remote control, and another switch too. I know with Venus, I took up all the rugs she went on. This was in late August. I just very recently put 2 back down, but one at a time. When I found I could trust her with one, I still waited a while before I put the other one down. I still have 1 rug put up. But my home isn't 3 levels either. Good luck with re-training the family. You make me so glad I live alone! |
Haha, thanks, I wish we were on our own. Actually I was living with my brother and he was so great with the training. Honestky it was easier to train little Bella then the Fam! |
