I don't get it! Bella has been so great with potty training, she has not had any accidents in the house since Nov. We keep her in a kennel during the day. It is a big wire crate large enough for a big lab, and I come home at lunch and let her out every day. We have been doing this since we got her. The very first week she had an accident in the kennel, but since that she has only went in the kennel one other time. Well we were off for the week of christmas so we were at home all day and ever since we went back to work at the beginning of January she goes pee in there at least 2 out of the the four days she is in there. I don't understand! We are making sure she goes out right before we put her in there and she continues to do this. Please help with any ideas of why this may be happeing all of a sudden! |
Maybe because she went in there once, and now she thinks it's ok. Dogs have a phenomenal sense of smell. If she smells urine, she may think that is where she should go. I would throughly clean the crate with something made to remove pet stains. Then if she continues to go in the crate, either give up and put a pad in, or move her to a small crate for training. Hope this helps. I left my yorkie in a play pen with a pad while I was out until he was pad trained enough to leave out all day. Then when I came home, i kept him leashed to me so I could make sure he didn't have accidents without me noticing. I was able to give gentle correction on the spot.:D The first year he basically was either in the playpen or tied to my hip. Good luck! |
You might also want to consider using a smaller crate. If she has that much room she can have her own little bathroom, bedroom, and playspace!:) Appropriately sized crates really do aide in housetraining! |
