Attitude Problem I have a 2 year old, 5 lb. yorkie that has somewhat of an attitude. He's very anti-social at times for some reason. To the point where he doesnt want to be touched where he'll spend long periods of time under the bed. I can coax him out sometimes. There are times where he is very loving and affectionate, but he has these moments where he is just downright mean where he'll just growl and go under the bed. He's also very anti-social around other dogs as well. We've had him since he's been 8 weeks old and he's actually come a long way :) (Potty Training with him actually wasn't that bad), but I would love to get him over the hump so to speak. Anyone have an suggestions/experiences or training methods they could recommend? Thanks, Michael |
try taking him to training classes...it is so much fun and helps you bond with your baby. It also helps him to see that you are alpha mom. He may needs somemore socialization with other dogs. I got Remmy when he was 8 weeks old and he really was never around other animals. Now that I have a second he does not like her at all. He is not agressive towards her but they are clearly not friends yet. :( |
Ahhhh....the terrible twos! Lucky is also 2 and does the same thing, although she doesn't growl when she goes under the bed. She will remain under there and doesn't want to come out when she's called. I guess that I never considered it anti-social behavior though. I think that dogs have their emotional ups and downs just like people and sometimes they just want to be alone. We used to try to coax her out from under the bed, but now we just let her have her space and she can come out when she is ready. When she emerges, she usually is back to her happy-go-lucky self. |
Now that you mentioned this I didn't realize that my oldest does this also, but instead of the bed, he goes underneath the sofa and watches everything. He doesn't growl or anything, but he will just go under there and watch the other 2 dogs or me or just lay there, and he is 3 years old now. This is interesting. |
Thats very similar to what Jerry does....we sort of try to view that as him having his own personal space...you can almost set your watch by him....he goes under there every night between 7:30-9:00 and just sits there looking out. |
oh...as far as the growling goes he doesnt constantly do it...just when you get too close to him and he's under the bed....like I said we just try to treat that area as his personal space. Am I doing the right thing by doing so? Michael |
lol....... can dogs be bipolar??????? |
Last night I did something I don't usually do with Jerry. I sat in the bedroom during his "under the bed time". He was under the bed for a shorter amount of time. Instead he spent most of this time right next to me chewing on a Nylabone and and going back and forth from his food dish bringing food over one piece @ a time, so I brought 3 pieces of food over for him....so what does he do....he puts 2 pieces food back in his bowl and goes back to getting one piece at a time....what a character :) |
