Im having guests over need advice Im having a party at my house this weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with Izzy. I have a small place about 845 sq ft. I thought about putting him in my bedroom with the door closed, or crating him. The problem is, he loves people...naturally, and tends to whine when I put him up when people are around. Eventually he will calm down, but Im not sure if he will this time. Im having at least 12 people coming. My guests would be happy to see him, but after a while they wont want to have to watch him. Hes only 4.5 months old and needs to be watched at all times, unlike older dogs. He cant run around with out getting into something or bothering one of my guests! Please help! |
I would let him come out and visit everyone once for a short while - so he gets his 'fill' and maybe a little tired out too. Afterwards, put him in his pen or your bedroom (wherever he will be 'away' from the group and out of sight). I wouldn't allow guests to go in and out of the bedroom visiting with him - it will only make him whine more to be out with you where the fun is (I've learned this from experience). Maybe take him for a nice long walk or good hard play outside to tucker him out a bit so hopefully he'll snooze while you entertain. |
I agree with Oscar's Mommy:) Tire him out a little before everyone comes. A bath always does my girls in:laugh: Take him out for brief visits, and just be careful to not let anyone inexperienced hold him. I just had 8 of my inlaws here from out of state for the holidays, and it was TORTURE! I had to constantly be on the alert for where my babies were, and who with, and making sure that no one was picking Luna up (she's wiggly jumper) or feeding them anything. Then the fun of cleaning up after them, of course:rolleyes: I was up til 2 am every night and got up around am to start the fun all over again:p If I can get through 10 days of that, you can do one evening;) No sweat:D |
Great advice! Okay, thanks for the advice. I will try to tire him out. He is a big napper too...his name from the breeder was "Sleepy":p See, last week I had family over which was a small group..6 people or so, but even then I had to be on alert. My family didnt understand that they couldnt just play with him then put him down and not watch him! My cousin played with him for a bit then just put him down and of course he wandered, next thing I knew he was under the christmas tree (where he knows he is not allowed), eating pine needles!! I got a little irritated then put him in his crate and they were like, why did you put him up?...duh, no one was watching him!!?? :confuse8: Puppies are like 1 year olds you have to watch their every move. |
My neighbor watches my babies for me sometimes. She's real good with them and has 2 small dogs herself. I'm in Muskegon, if I was closer I'd puppy sit for the night for you. |
Just last weekend i had 24 people to my house and I was worried about Sassy she is only 4 months old and you no what that means. I took her out for a long walk about 45 minutes before people started to arrive. Then once they arrived i let her visit for about 1/2 hour then i put her in her crate in my bedroom. She complained for 5 minutes then was fast asleep for the rest of the night. |

I agree with the others. Tire him out before they get there and then put him to bed just like you would with a kid. I would definitely put him in a crate, so no one could accidently let him out. There was another thread where they had put the dog in the bedroom and one of the guests had opened the door and the dog ended up with a broken leg from having the soor closed on it. |
If I am having people over I usually ask my Parents to take the girls...I am SO worried someone will let them out or step on them...I miss them while they are gone and my guests are upset because they love my furbabies but, I feel better knowing they are safe with Gramma and Grampa... Do you have someone that could watch him for the night?... |

Hi just to update you: The party was a success and Izzy did fine. He actually had a good time too. He was pooed after everyone left! I had him in his crate in my bedroom for part of the night. He cried when I shut the door so I left it open and he was fine. He just wanted to see everyone. After a while I took him out but made sure someone held him. I had a couple of friends who were fighting on who was going to hold him next! They were dog owners so I trusted them. Thanks for all of the advice everyone! |
I got my puppy Kobe in November and since then I've had a couple of dinner parties (including one this weekend). I don't let him walk around freely when the party is going on (too many feet!). I usually let him say hello to everyone, then I put him in his crate near the main area where the party is going on. He usually complains for a bit, but I think he like to the action going on, rather than keeping him in a room by himself. -lsf |
