OH! I don't know if I can do it. I take Chino oustide and he goes pee. Thats all. But a few minutes later he goes number 2 inside. He also does not like to play with his toys or with me. He only likes the cat. He cuddles with us. I don't know why I cant get him to play or potty train. He is almost 7 months and we have had him for 2 months. I guess I will try pads. If anyone has had the same problems let me know. :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa |
It takes sometimes for him to do number 2. When I trained my chelsea it took at least 5-10 minutes waiting for her to do number 2 even though I know it was the time for her to do so. I used crate training method. I did not let her run around the house since I got her. I also feed her 3 times in the same time 7.00; 12.00 and 18.00 so pretty much I knew when she would go to potty. The crate training really helps since it teaches her to hold. I put her in the crate for 1 hour with a lot of toy or treat, took her out to potty or pee and praised her. I would let her play in the house if she did her job outside (and I know she is pretty save inside the house). If she did not do her job she would be back to the crate for 5 minutes and repeat it again religiously. Eventually she understood hat she has to pee or potty outside. Also I took her in immediately after she did her job so she knew that the purpose of going outside was to potty. I would not change to pee pad since it would confuse him. Good luck ! |
I found I wasn't leaving Kodak outside long enough, even when it got cold, I just had to grin and bear it and stay out with him. They have to run around and sniff a bit, then they pee. The poop is like 10 or sometimes 15mins later. Once they poop in the house, put it outside around the spot they pee at. They usually smell it and associate with being ok to poop outside. Make sure to reward him with a treat after he poops then bring him in. You may need to put the cat up for 15 mins & make that play time for him only. Take some rope toys and pull them on the floor to make him chase after it. Roll a ball back & forth. They are easily distracted, so I started with one toy at a time. Right after you play with him & after he eats, take him out to pee. Kodak is on a schedule now, I made sure to be consistent. I take him out as soon as he gets up, after he eats and after playing. When I'm gone for a period of time, I have a pad down. Now he holds it till I get in, and as soon as I walk in the door, we go out before I take my coat off. Good luck. |
Thanks for the replys. Sometimes he goes outside but not often. We just went out and no luck so now he is in his crate. |
Be patient and consistant...He'll get it eventually.. Lillybelle was over a year before she was completely 100% accident free. |
I had the same prob with #2 when we first potty trained Zoe. Keep at it and one day they will get it and make sure you have a treat handy so they understand that this is the thing to do. Not sure about the rest. |
It is important to make them want to go outside. Reward, reward is the trick. The reward must be something they never get in the house. It has to be only for the outside and they must want it. A trainer told me to use liverwurst. Now were talking a tiny piece so don't worry about the fat. Buddy loved it and he trained in 3wks. It is very important to be consistant. As soon as they squat, praise and give a tiny bit of the liverwurst. If for some reason he does not like it try chicken. Good luck, Carol & Buddy |
ok will try that. i took him out, no luck then went in the shower and i saw him pee on the rug. ahhh. well i guess tommorrow i will try liverwurst cuz now i have to go to work. my hubby gets home soon, maybe he wil have luck. |

We have had great success using potty pads. The first key is make it easy for them to use, and in a place that they seem familiar with/is convenient. Ours always drifted towards doorways, so we picked a door, and that became the "potty" door. We tried boxes, litter boxes, and about 5 places before we put the pad by the door. Second, positive reward. When the puppy went on the pad, we gave her a treat and a "puppy party" (lots of praise, petting, etc). When she didn't go on the pad, we moved her over to the pad and barricaded the exits for a minute or two, while saying "Lacey, go potty." If she went on the pad then, puppy party would ensue. It took a week or two, but she caught on. Couple other tips: - If you already see the mess, it is too late. Don't scold the dog, cause they won't know what they did wrong. If you catch them in the middle of the act, either spray them with a squirt bottle (filled w/ water), or find a gentle way of disturbing them, saying "No. Potty over here" as you move them over to the new area. This is most effective if you see the "potty signs" and you can get them over to their area quickly. - Do not yell, shout, clap really loud, or do things to scare the dog while they are going. They may develop a fear of you, and go potty upon seeing you. Hope this helps. |
I couldn't do it..... I got my Yorkie when he was 2 years old. He was mostly potty trained and occassionally would have accidents. We finally perfected potty training! And then he started going number 2 in the house! He could have just been outside and he would come in the house and go. I didn't know what to do with him. My husband's 1st wife had a Yorkie - and he claims they are just spiteful little animals (It would poop on his pillow!!!). While I find it hard to believe it was out of spite - he had to go. It got to the point where he'd poop on the heat registers and in front of doorways where you couldn't help but step in it if it were dark! Good luck! |
Well we put Chino in his crate overnight for the first time last night. My hubby and I are both deep sleepers so I guess he did alright. We my hubby got up he took him out and he went then I took him out and he went 1 and 2 and I gave him a treat. So hopefully I am getting somewhere. But when we tried to go for a walk (cuz it is almost 70 here) he barked at everyone that walked by and we had to go in. But I love him. |
