In terms of his energy level - How long are your walks? I try to walk Banks for at least an hour a day. (this doesn't include short trips to the potty) This helps get him get his energy out. Also, if I know I'm going out for a while or that I'm going to need alot of down time, I try to take him on an extra long walk so that he won't have the energy to complain when he's by himself. I read a really great book, "Mother Knows Best." It's a fantastic book that outlines good training techniques and the commands every dog should know. |
The way I see it, Sam is the pack leader in his den. He's working pretty hard at it because, he believes, there is no other pack leader there. You need take your authority back from him and food can be the best motivator for obedience for dominating dogs. First, make him earn his food by obeying simple commands. If he doesn't obey, take away his food until he's willing to obey. But make him EARN his food. Then - commands have some "meat" behind them - pun intended! Why should he obey you now? Disobedience is more fun! |
