From inside training to outside potty training Hi everyone, Poochie is nearing 5 months old. My lil babe is potty trained inside on Nature's Miracle puppy pads. He just got his last set of shots last week, so the vet gave us the "OK" to start going outside on walks. So, now I'm trying to get Pooch to do his business outside because I want him to stop going inside. I am walking him 3 times a day, morning, right after work, and before bed. So far, he just thinks they're little outings I guess. We walk and he is exploring his new world. Once we get home, he goes on the puppy pad! I've tried to "catch" him going on his pad inside and take him out immediately, but he doesn't go~...~ Has anyone ever successfully gotten their pups to transition? I know I read a lot about never getting them used to the inside in the first place, but the vet told me not to take him out under any circumstance (including grooming places until the last booster took place). I just wanna be a good dad~ :) Oh and does anyoen know around what age the chewing phase stops? My friend who has a Yorkie said their teeth will fall out or need to be pulled at some point, but I haven't read anywhere else that this is what will happen. |
Cordelia was first trained to go inside on the pee pads, but it really wasn't working. We took her to Man's Best Friend for Obedience and house training. She now uses both pee pads and the yard. They recommended that we use pee post in the yard http://www.petco.com/assets/product_...027913000B.jpg This pheromone-treated post trains your pet where to urinate. Simple to use. |
Hi, BonCoeur! I have two 5 month old yorkies myself, Parker and Duke. I am doing the exact opposite and training them to go potty indoors in their potty cage. One has it down, the other...not so much :) Anyway, I have a couple suggestions that Ihave read about for you. First of all, I noticed that when I tokk my boys on their walks, they didn't go potty at first. However, on day I decided to go for a run with them. I'll tell you, once they started running, it wasn't 10 yards before they had to go to the bathroom. You may want to try running with them a few times just to get them used to using the outdoors as their new bathroom. Another suggestion. Natures Miracle makes puppy pads that have a grass scent to them. They say day by day move the pads closer to the door that you will let your puppy out at. Once he is going by the door, move the pads outside and take him to it each time. Eventually he should start going outside without the pads. Hope that helps :) |
