New Home - Training disaster? Hi all, Bella is now 5 months old and has mastered the pee pee pads. We have a great routine going and I m really happy with her training. My issue is that we will be moving into a new home in a week and I am afraid that all of our hard work will be lost. The new house is 10x bigger then what we are currently living in. There are also several levels, we are in a bungalow now. My question is if anyone has any advice on how to make the transition a smooth one. Any experience?? I look at this as a possible opportunity to move her from pee pad to outdoor training, but I dont want to confuse her. I know this is a crutial stage in her development. Help please  |
A new house is new territory. I would suggest that you keep her confined to one small area only in your new home. Somewhere near a door out into the yard, which I assume is fenced? It is easy to let her out that way. You can keep some wee wee pads down in the area you have her. It can be a kitchen whatever, where the flooring is linoleum, not carpet. You can put a wee wee pad outside to start to get her used to the idea to potty outside. In most cases, a new home will mean you will have to start over again but she should progress quickly since she was already doing so well. |
Good Luck. I recently moved to a new place with my yorkie (4 yrs old) We had to start all over again. Needless to say she got it down quicker but it was like starting all over. |
It's a good idea to confine to a small area in your new home. You will have to start over more then likely but Bella will catch on. |
I don't think it is necessarily true that you will have to start over. I get bored every few years and need a new decorating challenge and move to a new home and have never had to retrain my dog. I just show him where to go and all is fine. Sometimes he gets confused the first week or two until he learns where everything is and there might be an accident, but this is house #3 for him and no problem. |
