need advice on this already discussed topic :( HI, i'm new to the site and i've read so many helpful things already. I recently bought Caesar monday to be exact he came home with me. he stayed in his crate the whole night but i did play with him and tried to get him aquainted with new residence. he doesn't pee or poo in his crate however he won't use pee pee pads at all. he is 5months old. today i am trying to keep him on a scedule where he uses the potty outside in the morning, then again in the afternoon like around 3:30 and then again in the evening around 7:45 or 8pm. is this enough and between morning and afternoon potties he will stay in his crate b/c i ave work and i am trying to train him and after his afternoon potty he will be allowed to stay in his little area. i am wondering if this enough to take him out to potty and if i use both pads and take him outside will it confuse him and how do i train him to use the pads? i know this will take both time and patience but until he does am i doing the right thing? another thing is that he seems to be a finiky eater, how often am i suppose to feed him, right now i feed him about twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. any help and suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks! |
Congrats on the new puppy! I think you heading in the right direction. Small puppies will pee or poop about 15-30min after that eat or drink. That's usually a good time to take them out. At 5 months old, they can hold it better but same concept. Eat/drink, wait awhile then take them outside. Of course using pee pee pad or taking him outside is a preference. Puppy eats more than adult dogs. Some people like to leave food and water out all day other do not because it is harder to predict when the puppy need to go out when food and water is available all dog. For 5 months old, I think 2 times a day is about right. good luck with the puppy! Hope to hear more about Caesar soon |
Welcome Aliboo: yorkieagility is right. 2x per day for a five month old is a good rule of thumb for food. Water however, is a must. Right after you feed him, take him out and then put him back in his crate. Is it possible to have someone, like a dogwalker come and take him out at lunch time? They could lead him to his wee-wee pad or take him outside. Whatever routine you choose, you need to be consistent with it each day. So....if he uses the wee-wee pad at 12:00 pm, you can take him out at 5-6 pm when you get home from work. Dogs seem to like routines and schedules, (atleast mine does), with the exception of food. They need a variety of that. ;) Good Luck , stick to one routine and be patient and consistent. :) |
