Retrain? I am having a hawk problem at home. i go outside with Daisy everytime, but apparently that does not matter to a hawk. I've been thinking about trying to re-train her to use a wee wee pad in doors. Is this possible? She goes outside now but I'm going on vacation at the end of Feb for 10 days and I dont want her to be outside with the neighbors when they come over to let her out during the day. |
Yes , it is possible to do it . |
You can teach her to go on command. Just go stand next to her when she pees and say "go potty" After a few times she will learn what that means and go when you ask her to. That's how I taught Loki to go on the mulch when he would only go in the grass and it is invaluable when I need to him pee when we are in a hurry or it's cold outside! I'm sure that I could convince him to pee on a pad, although I hope I never have to try! Can you just take her out on a short leash? We have hawks here too but I always have Loki outside on a leash. |
After watching this video I dont want to go out at all. I never knew they would go after humans. http://www.cnn.com/video/player/play...scues.dog.whdh I will see if i can get her to go on the pad and take it from there. |
It's definitely harder to re-train your dog. I am currently doing this to mine because San Francisco weather is so wet, I have to re-train Coco to pee inside. Asthey get older, the harder it gets also. She's almost 4 months old and has a mind of her own. VERY stubborn!! She wants to pee only by the door, I guess to say that "it's too cold ouside so I attempted. It's really frustrating. |
You didn't say how old your dog was. I think that may have a lot to do with retraining also. I saw that clip from another post, and was scary. I'm not as scared of ME being attacked, but my dogs. That hawk was pretty lucky that boy didn't kill it, lol! One brave child there  Luckily, I haven't seen any in my neighborhood, but if I do, I will buy a pellet gun and do some "moving target practice"! They might be "protected" but they not near as protected as my babies! Heck, I'm pushing 50 fast, and never been to jail. Can't think of a better reason to go than protecting my dogs! |
She turned 1 year in July. Every morning we go out potty and i've been trying to make her go on the wee wee pad and she just isnt going on it. I'm going to try but doubt it will happen. |
I am in the process of retraining my Jewels now too. She was outside trained but this year she started not going outside if its raining or cold |

I am doing it very unssuccessfully. I got some oof that stuff you spray on the pad and she stiil hasnt used it. I am afraid I am going to have to start over like she was a new puppy and confine her with the pad because shes going in my house |
i tried some stuff like that too and didnt work. when i first got her my mom mentioned to wee wee pad train her and i didnt want to because i really didnt know much about it and didnt want it in the house. so that i want to do this i'm having a hard time. if i get any success i will let you know and if you do please let me know what worked for you. |
Would it be worth trying to train her by putting the pee pad outside where she normally pees...then gradually bringing it closer to the door, then inside etc? |
