IMO, getting Violette a buddy is the way to go. When we first got Max Toni took him to work everyday. One of the main reasons we agreed to get Max was that we would not have to leave him home alone all day. Our schedules at the time had us out of the house for 12+ hours at a time. When her boss said she could bring him to work everyday we immediately went out and started looking for a yorkie. But after 6 months the landlord of the office complex said they couldn't bring pets in anymore. So we went back to the same breeder (who I now know is more of a greeder but that is another story) and got Sasha. She has the same parents but is 8 months younger. It was a match made in heaven. They keep each other company while we are away, which since I have changed jobs is only a couple hours a day now. They are inseparable. They sleep with each other curled up in a ball where you can't tell where one ends and the other begins! They play together, sleep together, bark at the same invisible intruder together and love to lick my face together. Different dogs might react differently to each other but for us getting a second furbaby was the best thing we could have done. How old is Violette? An older dog may have trouble accepting a younger one if she is used to being the center of attention. But my suggestion is go get her a buddy! |
Violette is 1-1/2. I contacted her breeder and they too have a full sister of Violette that will be ready to come home in 3 weeks. I'm worried that Violette will be jealous. She is my side kick. |
Several years ago I had a pack of 3, all girls 2 not spade, one spayed, all 3 years apart, the older one/ones when the new bouncing kid came home the older one/ones went to high grounds, the sofa lol. It took the older ones several weeks to accept baby nipping jaws, they all got along just fine. Came a time the two older passed away 6 months apart, the baby who was now 6 yo was grieving their loss. I gave her 6 months to adjust being the only child, it never happened, so my search for the perfect buddy began. I came upon a LARGE 8 week old girl, this is what lil Miss bossy 6 yo needed, besides, I knew NO ONE would buy a yorkie as large as my Matese was. When I bought home this humongous 8 week old puppy it was LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT, no high grounds for my 6 yo, it was "let the fun begin. These two were inseparable, they slept together, where the baby was the 6 yo was right behind her, I called them ROADWAY lol.... I say GO FOR IT, it may take time for Violette to get use to a new kid depending on Violette's age, but they will be BFF. Good luck and please keep us posted. |
A part of me is selfish and don't want to change the relationship that Violette and I have. Will she still be my best friend too? |
