Training my 7mo. old yorkie. PLEASE HELP !!! PLEASE HELP! My yorkie, Cooper, is 7 mo. old and I am still having the hardest time getting him to go potty in the right spot. I have tried a litter box, potty pads, diapers, outside... everything you can think of. During the day when I am at work Cooper stays in the kitchen along with my other dog Ruby, who is a yorkiepoo. Ruby is trained outside. Cooper will use the potty pad most of the time when he is in the kitchen during the day. I said MOST of the time. Sometimes I will find spots under the table or next to the pad! When he runs around the house with Ruby, I sometimes find his little "tootsie rolls" in a spare bedroom or see him tinkle on the carpet right in front of me. Is it too late for him to GET THE CLUE?? I don't know what else to do. I can't take my eyes off of him. I have spent so much money at Petco and Petsmart...I am sure I could be part owner!!! HELP! Any suggestions? Anyone? Thank you! Best holiday wishes to all! :0) -Keri |
Keri- Welcome to YT! I'm a former Wisconsinite... This will be my first winter not living in WI and I'm soooooo excited :D I'm sorry you have such a hard time training your yorkie. What way do you want to have him trained? Outside, potty pad or litter box? After all the methods, is it at all possible that Cooper could be confused? Or I could be deadwrong. All I know is that with Trixie's potty training, I had to be very consistent. I had my eyes on her at all times (I was a little obsessive, I have to admit ;) ), and if she'd so much try to squat down, I'd yell out really loud 'uhuh', picked her up and literally ran outside. As soon as she went potty outside I gave her tons of praises. It took a while and I think there will always be accidents... But after a few weeks, she got it. And she's been good ever since. Consistency is the key! Good Luck! |
Gracie is 6 months old. Most of the time she is 100% with the pee pads. Sometimes, when she gets distracted or really has to go, especially in the middle of the night, she will poo elsewhere. Sometimes it is in my bedroom and other times it is a foot or so away from her pee pads. I can't figure it out. I just keep persisting. I figure she is still young. I would say keep persisting, give lots of praise when baby does go in the appropriate place! |
