My dog is too attached to her potty pads I have a 6 month old yorkie. She is trained a little to well to go potty on her pad. She hasnt had a mistake in a good month. The problem is she will not go potty outside. She'll hold it a good two hours (which is when i loose my patience). When i take her outside she'll want to play and eat leaves so i take her back inside and she goes straight to her pad and starts circling. I run to pick her up and take her out to the grass and say go potty and nothing........... Take her back, wait a little then she runs to her pad, so i do the same thing. This will go on for a half of day literally. I tell myself she cant hold it forever but she can. What to do? What kind of dog doesnt want to go to the bathroom outside? My trainer says i have to go to a park all day until she pee's. I dont have this time to just sit at a park for 8 hours because thats how long my dog can hold it. PLease help, im sooooo frustrated. it seems like you pad trained her i dont see a problem |
Hmm why dont you place the potty pad outside? so she can get used being outside... also and yeah I agree with browniesmom.. i dont really see a problem!! princess is almost 2 years old...still has some accidents =P |
I read somewhere that you should move the pad closer and closer to the door. Eventually they'll got outside. |
Where is the problem ? |
Seems like there is really no problem but you just want her to start showing her to go outside instead. My babies are pad trained and will not go outside but I prefer the pads since I work and cannot come home during the day to take them out. Since she is use to the pads she might not want to go outside and to be honest it will probably take some time before she will go outside. Just keep trying. |
Gucci is 2 1/2 yrs old. She is trained to go outside and inside. Which I do like for if I am not home I don't have to worry. But she do has accidents like today and yesterday with poops she doesn't always go on the pad. She knows she did wrong cause she hides on me, and I know that she pooped... The cutest picture of her hiding...lol What can you do ,you have to have patience with them. But if yours is going on the pad thats good. So what is the problem? |
dont worry about it too much Quote:
:aimeeyork My rocky is now 8months old and i thought he would never do something outside and just last weekend he did pee outside for the first time and now whenever we go outside he pees outside he hasnt done poop but i am being patient and i know he will do his business when he's ready. I thought he was only going to use the wee wee pads since he's home all day while i work, but we went to the park and he did it on his own, sometimes he still squats to pee but that's ok i rather him still do that because i dont want pee on my walls. Just be patient when he's ready he will go outside i promise:aimeeyork |
CAli is 16 months old and wee wee pad trained . My pom is only trained to go outside so I thought she would catch on from Maya to alos go outside. Wrong she whas never peed or pooped outside. I can take her for a walk or in the car and she holds it until she gets home to her pad. |
My pup is the same way, and I used to see a problem with this... But I realized, when I'm stuck at work longer, or stuck in traffic, I don't stress about him having to go potty (at least THAT worry less...). He's 6 months as well, when he was about 4 mo old hubby and I took him for the trip to MD, about 4 hours away. Coming back, we got stuck in horrendous traffic and the trip back home took us the whole day. Needless to say, despite stopping every couple hours for a potty break, he held it until we were back and literally soaked his pee pad, silly thing... He held for more than 8 hours. |
My parents paper trained their dog... Once she had figured out she was only to go on the paper, they'd move it inch by inch over to the door. Eventually they partially slid the paper under the door until she had to ask to get to the other side to get to it.... Try taking a pad outside with you. Maybe she'll go on the pad out there, at least then she'd get accustomed to doing her business outdoors. |
My puppy is 5 months+. I live in a condo so I am not able to do the inch by inch thing. What I do is he was paper trained by the time he came. His breeder used newspaper and I never changed it because I do not want to fix what is not broken :p . I just say good pee pee or good poo poo when he does it. When we go out, I bring his favourite treats along and make sure he sees me putting them in to the bag. When we are outside, I say "go pee" or "go poo". When he has pee/poo then, he will go and followed by his treat afterwards. Its not consistent but again, I only walk him once a day to the park so other than that, he uses the paper at home. |
