She hates to get brushed. My yorkie doesn't like the brush. She tries to bite it al the time. I have a hard time trying to brush her. Any advice about this? |
Brushing your yorkie Hello! We had the same problem when our yorkie was younger! What we did was get her used to the brush so she knew it was not something that was meant to hurt her. First I let her smell it, then I started slowly brushing her legs, gradually working up to the face area. If you have a tangle, hold the hair just below the tangle in your fingers, then work the tangle with the brush so that your dog is not feeling the "pull". Also, I try to praise her during brush time & give her a small treat afterwards. Hope this helps! Good Luck! |
It's so hard not to laugh when they're doing that:laugh: But you must discourage the biting, and offer a treat every few minutes. Luna's getting better since I read on here to give a tiny treat here and there. I give Luna the Gerber Graduates freeze dried apple bits, she loves them and they dissolve easily, so they don't take long for her to eat. Plus, they're just apple, nothing added;) You just have to keep at it. Praise and treat:D!! |
Gracie will bite the brush unless I put her up on the kitchen or bathroom counter. Up there she won't move. |
Try a smear of peanut butter on the counter or floor. Brush away as pup is licking it off. Repeat as needed! |

I do this to get Lillies scruncie in!! LOL!! I have to work fast though...she's a quick licker LOL Lillie HATES the brush too...does everything that is being said here...I have tried EVERYTHING to get her to let me brush her...Lillie has a thick soft coat that is starting to matt...I tried cowboy magic...I have read great things (on here) about it but, hasn't worked so good for me...Maybe because she doesn't keep still! I am going to check into a grooming noose. |
Sadie's getting better with the brushing. Still likes to bite at it some. Thanks for the suggestions. |
Venus wasn't fond of getting brushed at all when I first started. Since I do that every day with her, now she goes to sleep while I'm brushing and combing! Keep doing it, and they will get used to it! |
Cooper doesnt mind being brushed as long as he has something to chew on while I'm doing it. He's 5 months. I use both a comb and brush on him so he either chews on a toy or either the comb or brush when im using the other. I dont mind as I get it done as it keeps him occupied. |
this is why romeo sports a puppy cut year round. |
