SOS wee-weeing on the edge! We have a little pee pee boy! I`ve tried a litter box with wee wee pads in it, and a pad holder, and a large tray with pads in it & raised it from the floor. We even placed a pad with wee wee on it in the middle of the tray, but no matter what Chibi goes on the edge of the tray and it goes on the floor. Now we are continually cleaning the floor(with diluted bleach and drying it). It`s really tiring. We`d really appreciate any advice you may have! Thanks!!!:animal36 |
Is he lifting his leg? Perhaps he is standing in the right spot; but, the stream hits the side and onto the floor...?? I saw another thread where someone suggested a 'target' for males, placed in the middle of a pad. Hope this helps. Good luck! |
Sadie does that, too. I try to move the pad over farther to where she's gone, but she just moves over to the edge again. What's strange is that she does this outside too. She gets as close to the sidewalk as she can (puts her front feet on the sidewalk, back on the grass) so she can go on the edge there, too. I tried the litter box with a pad inside (not litter) but she refused to get in it. She doesn't miss on the pad every time, but every couple of days or so. |
Same problem here. . . there must be something great about the edge that Im not getting! Pete doesnt do it every time but often enough and its especially annoying if I dont notice it right away what a pain. I was recently considering a litter box to put the pad in but now Im concerned that wont work either:rolleyes: . |
Gracie does the same thing whether I use pad holders or just the pads. I think I have discovered that if she pees on the edge, then she has the middle area dry to stand on so her feet don't get wet? I have discovered extra large pee pads do help with this somewhat, but I think the edge peeing is now a habit that will be very hard to break. |
GRR! I feel your pain!!! Oscar doesn't lift his leg on the pad, but he walks up to it and squats right on the edge. Lately I've found he hasn't been anywhere close to getting it ON the pad - it's about 4" away... he seems to think that so long as he is in the vicinity of the pad, it's fair game! It's soooo frustrating. I go through so much paper towel!!! |
eeek! i totally feel everyone. howie will pee RIGHT NEXT to the pad. not all the time, but he will, and it's really annoying! if he were to take one more step foward, he would be on the pad. and yess, i go through TONS of paper/napkins, too. hahaha, and i agree. i think they think, as long as their in the vacinity of the pee pads, they're good. because howie will run out of my room or bathroom when i'm getting ready in the morning, to his pee pad, but pee OFF of it! then, he'll look at me like he's been a good boy. :) it's just too cute. i feel like i can't get mad because he was really trying. also, i think he does this because he wants a treat. (i've given him treats for peeing on the pad when we were initially training). |
It`s good to hear from you! Ah, you are having the same problem...I feel your frustration. I`m going to try rewarding Chibi only when he goes closer to the middle of the pad. We may try a target too. I`ll give you a progress report.:animal36 And yes, it is funny how my little boy too looks so proud of himself, even though he is just missing the pad. There`s hope though, recently, I met a lady with Dachshads and she said that they had the same problem. Since they are so long they thought that they were on the pad, but they weren`t. Unfortunately it took a year to fully train them! If she has any advice, I`ll post it here. |
A little better! 1 Attachment(s) Ok, so he is getting a little better a peeing away from the edge. We used a larger tray, and put some pads along the edge where he likes to go. Now I don't have to wipe the floor at all. But hopefully with time we can use a smaller tray! Picture of our set-up: |
1 Attachment(s) I had the same problem with Jazzie but I out thunk her! She figured her front paws are on the pad so she did good... How do correct that???? So, I got a cat litter pan with the high sides and a low edge on one side so she has to "Jump" in to go potty! So Jazzie decided "I'm gonna prove I'm smarter" and she now rolls-up her pad after going potty! |
Good idea! I'll try that one!:animal36 |

You can do it Chibi! Make your mama proud! |
I went through this with Jaxon and over time (a lot of time  ), it got better. I tried putting a water bottle (full) at the edge of the pad - almost like a marker for where he needed to be. It helped a bit, but not entirely. I finally went back to using 2 pads and that improved things. |
I bought one of those shallow, under the bed storage boxes and I put the pee pad in that. It solved the problem with peeing on the edge, but I do have a wadering pooper. So she may start out in the box, but might not finish there. But poop is easy to pick up. |
