5 Month Old Shihtzu Being a Bad Influence On 20 Month Old Yorkie!!! I was searching for a friend for Penny and I came across a Shihtzu puppy that was looking for a new home. I adopted her and she's adorable.. BUT she's being a very bad influence on Penny. Jenna (my lil Shihtzu) is supposed to be potty trained and the previous owner told me that she had a little corner in her apartment and that she'd always pee and poop there. She told me that when Jenna is introduced to new environments, she will take a while to get used to a new spot. I moved the pee pee pad from the kitchen (the original spot) to the bathroom, and Penny has been catching on and so has Jenna! But sometimes, I catch them BOTH peeing in the middle of my studio apartment.. and go on poop rampages eVERY morning. I've been pulling out my hair.. and I've been doing all I could to teach them.. But I'm not sure if my approach is right or not. I catch them, scold them, and put them on the pad. ;[ And I can't put Jenna on the couch/bed because she'll just pee on it but if Penny, mommy, and daddy are all on the couch, she starts scratching and crying. :( :( :( HEARTBREAKING!!!!!!!!!!! HELP ME!!! |
When we first got Piper she was peeing on the carpet, so Misha thought it was alright to do it also after being broke for months. We ended up putting Piper in the kitchen & lanai until we had her trained on the pee pads. Took a few months. She now has access to the whole house after being trained. |
Well make sure the area where they have made their mistakes is cleaned very well, either with dilute bleach and dried or with vinegar/water(but not both). Secondly, we only say no to Chibi when he goes in the wrong spot, but we don`t raise our voices, since we were told/and read several times in different books that it makes dogs nervous and doesn`t really help. We give him treats (really small pieces of lunch meat or tiny treats we buy at the pet store) and lots of praise (while he is going) when we catch him going in the right spot. But the trick is to catch them going in the right spot and praise, praise, praise! It has worked for us, hopefully it will for you too! Also maybe you could hold her in your arms when on the couch, it seems that dogs will not go on their mommy`s and daddy`s. But if she suddenly squirms then she probably has to go! Good luck!:animal36 |
