Chewing My little Max chews too much. He chews on chairs, shoes, or anything laying around. I heard that there was stuff you could spray on to stop him from chewing. Can anyone tell me what the best stuff is. I have tried vinegar, but as I am putting it on he licks it off. He is chewing the legs of my wooden chairs to splinters and I don't want him to swallow it. He also seems to like chewing on peoples sleeves. When I go to pet him he just grabs for my sleeve, anyone know how to stop that? Thank you. |
Are you giving him plenty opf other things to chew on? When He grabs at you sleeve, tell him NO BITE, and put him down. try again in a little while. Keep repeating until he learns that you will not hold him if he chews on you. If you try pulling away or pushing him away he will think it's a game. So just put him down and walk away. |
He has a lot of different chew toys to play with, he plays with them a lot, but he still wants to chew sleeves. Even when I go to pet him he seems to always grab my sleeve. I would love to know what the spray is called. Thanks |

If you can't find that, put clear deoderant on the furniture legs, and other wood stuff she's chewing on. Someone here recommended it for Venus, when she first started chewing. It stopped her. Works for some dogs, don't work on others though. I put it on every piece of wood furniture in the kitchen, and its worked for me. I've even put some on cousins boot laces, cause she was chewing on them too. Also when she chewed a hole in the vinyl tile, I put some all over that spot, she hasn't went back. |
The bitter apple spray didn't work at our house. I tried everything, finally tried the deodorant, it worked and it didn't make any of the dogs sick, one lick and they leave it alone. I do occasionally have to reapply, just as a reminder. |

I worried about that too, but watched them after I put it on, one lick and they didn't go back. They didn't get enough in that one lick to hurt them, just enough to say "yuck". I can use it now, and they won't even try chewing, I think the smell reminds them not to chew. Just make sure to watch them after you put it on. If they still chew, clean it off, I'm sure if they got alot, it would make them sick.:( |

Petlover, thats how I learned some of these things, by reading others posts here. Venus is almost 6 months now, and she "seems" (knocking on wood as I type) to be out of the chewing stage now. But everything in this kitchen has clear deoderant on it! Even all of my baseboards, part of a wall, 4 chairs, pedistal table, and a china cabinet! So It worked for me. And when I saw her working on anything else, I put the clear deoderant on it too, including my cousins boot laces! What works for some dogs doesn't always work on all though. I've seen a few here it didn't phase thier dogs, but they never got sick from it either. |
