shoes how do i train a dog to wear shoes when he has never worn them before??? romeo is 3 yrs old. when i put shoes on him he falls over like his legs are broken. he refuses to walk then rips the shoes off. i think he needs them because the sidewalk gets very cold and he needs protection from rock salt. any advice??? |
i completely understand.. layla does this dance with them on like she can't bend her legs... it's very dramatic... however i coudln't bear to see her that uncomfortbale... my mom knows how to sew so she is making layla "mittens" that are a bit more comfortbale... she still makes a big scene.. but she prefers them much more! sorry this wasn't any help... but i do know where you are coming from! |
Good luck you guys!! I have never had a dog that would wear shoes for more than 10 seconds. Carol Jean |
Have you ever heard of Paw Wax? It may be an answer to your problem!:animal-pa |
I would put them on him every day inside the house until he gets used to walking in them. I am going to get some for Chachi and Jewels too |
I got some very cute shearling booties and managed to put 3 of them on Pepper last night :) ... the funniest sight ever. That must be what a dog with cast walks like, all legs stiff and flapping to the sides :D , he was running behind me but the sight... OMG too funny. I'll try a little while every day, hopefully he'll get used to them. |

Does Romeo like to go for walks? That is the way I get Gus to wear them. In the house he won't move in them but he won't let anything stop him from going on a walk. It helps he's learned that they won't come off until I take them off. I did get him used to them in the house a few minutes a day before trying to make him walk. |
where do you find comfortable "bootie" type shoes for your babies? i tried to find some for Howie, but all seem to be stiff shoe type. i just want them for him to walk around the house. i have hardwood floors and sometimes when i pick him up and feel his paws, they're kind of cold. =/ |
