snappy male my 2 and a half yr old biggle has started to snap at other dogs if they come over to say hi when i am walking him he also gets extremly nervous and shakes alot,i have only had him a year and he came from a home where there was several other dogs and i dont really know his history or wether he was bullied by these dogs also he has started to be so over the top excitable and jumps up at everyone and everything with one particular friend of mine he jumps and trys to nip her he has done it 3 times to her and actually made a tooth mark on her! but no one else i have 2 children that he would never do anything too and i trust him dearly with them, but strangers and other dogs im not so trusting with, we had a litter of pups recently and he adored them so much would never harm them! what can i do to stop him i try to be firm with him and tell him no but he seems to be so "over the top" ive thought about herbal remidies to help calm him down helpppp!!!!! lol suggestions please.... |
It certainly sounds like he is reacting from fear. (Most dog bites, BTW, are due to fear.) I really and truly think that you need to consult a positive trainer. Make sure it is a POSITIVE trainer. Your pup, because he is afraid, should NOT be harshly corrected for his behavior but should, instead, be desensitized to what he is afraid of - ie other dogs. Corrections will only make him more nervous. In the meantime, I would run interference for him. Put yourself between him and approaching dogs. That's what a leader does. Stay there until your dog decides to approach the other dog. If he doesn't fine. Don't make him. As for your one friend... Hmm, there is no telling why he reacts to her as he does. To be safe, I would probably keep him away from her. Does she, by chance, have a big dog? |
hi my friend has no dogs she only has a cat, but i do know she dosnt like dogs and i do think she really dosnt like him even before the nipping at her she wasnt very keen on him, alot of people have said he can tell she dosnt like him i think i will just keep him from her i do have a soft muzzle that i have put on him before and he behaves extremly well with it on he stays calm lies down and dosnt jump around like a loony ..... |
