Really Concerned Hey Everyone, I am just posting because I am REALLY concerned about Mochas biting.. I have posted this over and over but it is getting really bad.. She is tearing up my hands, arms, and face (she just bit my chin).. I have NO idea what I am doing wrong.. I yell NO and I have been holding her mouth closed like the vet told me to do but nothing is working...I spoke to the vet and he didn't really give me any advice so I figure you all the next best thing.. HELP!! I am at the point where I don't even enjoy having her out with me because it hurts so badly (yes, I actually cry because of the pain)... I've seen puppies bite before but nothing like this.. I love her to dealth but i am really annoyed :thumbdown :thumbs_do |
Aww, Fred bites as well but not as hard as you describe! It's more like puppy biting and playing. What I would suggest, because I read it somewhere around here before, is to maybe put some stuff called Bitter Apple on your hand when you play with Mocha and when she tries to bite it, it won't be tooo tasty. Sorry if thats no help! That's all I can think of! |
Natalie, thanks alot... My vet said that too.. He said to put it on my electrical cords.. I don't understand why she is doing this.. I have her in her crate now and she's staying there the rest of the night until bedtime.. Maybe she'll learn a lesson |
Something that I have been learning in my dog training classes is to take lemon juice and whenever they bite squirt a little in thier mouth. Sometimes dogs actually like Bitter Apple. So if that doesn't work try the lemon juice. I have used lemon juice with Memphis and it has worked. He only nips now when we are playing and he knows that it is ok. Kelly |

I am so sorry Mocha is behaving this way. Not sure where you stand financially but have you thought maybe about a professional personal dog trainer. A one on one? Maybe this will help? I can understand how it would be hard to bond with a pup that acts in this manner and I pray Mocha grows out of this. Hang in there and don't give up. Maybe only and really I mean "only" give him attention when he is doing good. Once he acts up completley ignore him and walk away, don't even give him eye contact. |
Thank you for all of your advice.. I am going to try the bitter apple as soon as I can get to the store to get some... As for hiring a trainer for her, I really can't afford it right now.. I am hoping to get her into Puppy Kindergarten... SHe's doing ok with her potty training.. .She still only barks in the morning when she went to the potty, not to tell me she needs to go which is confussing but at least she goes on the paper (pad) and she poos near the pad about 60% of the time.. She's also sitting and fetching, it's her biting that scares me, especially since she goes at my face.. My chin is still bleeding |
Hang in there! you are not alone with this problem, Sami is the same way breaks the skin actualy tears my skin, and not only is it annoying but seriously painful to the point you think? is my baby possessed or what  he was 12 weeks when I brought him home and started within the first week, he is now 5 months and has tapered off, I have tried grab the mouth & hold, lay him on his back, I have tried just about everything! I will be on the couch talking on the phone and he will just attack  and keep lundging at me biting & wont stop! I guess he really thinks he's the boss  But it really has gotten better other than attacking when Im not paying him any attention~ So i am greatful you made this post because hopefully someone can explain this strange behavior to me as well & suggestions! |
believe me I understand you, Pebbles is the same way, she will attack our faces and hands, You should see what my hands look like. It really hurts alot, I am starting puppy classes in about two weeks. SHe just does not understand the word "NO" |
What I have heard and have done with my puppies is when they bite you, you say "No, no bite!". You then put them in their crate or ignore them, they soon learn that that type of behavior ends the fun. It really does work. Signed the owner of a seven month old puppy that USED to be called "my puppy-pirana" but not anymore. ;) |
Hi! Is anyone playing rough with her? If so make them stop it immediately. Also, the very first bite, whack her nose (lightly of course!) I know some will disagree with me, but it made Lexy stop biting. Just a teeny tiny pop on the nose is all I mean. I also think the Bitter Apple, vinegar or antiperspirant on your hands is a good idea. Don't put up with it even once! Put her in timeout or punish her in some way. she has to know you are Alpha! She will outgrow this when she knows you are not going to tolerate it or give her any attention if she bites. Hope this helps and no one accuses me of being a dog abuser! No one spoils them more than I do, but I don't tolerate biting. |
Mine can get pretty crazy sometimes too especially with my 7 year old son. It has gotton so much better since I put latex gloves on my son and sprayed bitter apple all over them and then told him to play with her and let her bite his hands. She doesn't go after his hands anymore. I also did this myself when I first started grooming Tinkerbell. She would bite my hands and comb very aggressively so I coated my latex gloved hands in bitter apple and the comb too. It really works! |
I also wanted to say that when we had a problem with a large breed puppy we had, we had a trainer come out to our house. He said everytime the dog chews on your hand stick your finger in his mouth to the point that he gags. The other suggestion he had was to pinch the inner flap of the ear with your finger nail so that it is uncomfortable for the dog and they will stop biting as well. These suggestion might be a bit extreme to do to a yorkie but if she just will not stop you might try something like that. Also have you tried flipping on her on her back and holding her down and telling her no. This makes my Tinkerbell behave instantly. |
Ouch This worked for me. Maggie was a little rattlesnake. I put Tobasco sauce on some cotton glove fingers. Let the gloves dry. I put the gloves on. She grab onto them, I said OUCH and she immediately withdrew her fangs. Now, if she even thinks about a nip, I tell her OUCH. I know she remembered the hot sauce too well. |
Hi eensor No will accuse you of being an abuser. Actually some Obedience Schools actually use the nose thumping method for puppy nipping. I have even used it on Maggie. She stops and sneezes. Don't know if it really works, but sure takes her mind off what she was doing. |
