Petsmart Obedience Classes I am looking for obedience classes for Bella. Has anyone had any experience with Petsmart classes. I was impressed to see that they are 100% guaranteed, and that you can repeat the class if necessary. I also have a few private classes in my area. Any suggestions? |
Both my babies went to petsmart and you are right, you can get them to keep going back. They are the best! I sent Tiger twice, first one to learn, second just so he can socialize. Annika just went once and since I did not really follow through with her, did not learn any tricks :D but that is really my fault. Because of the 100% guarantee, I will someday soon take her back when I can find more time. |
I take Bubba to Petsmart for his obediance classes in fact we went today and he had 3 yorkies in his classs this time 4 wild boys in one class together ! poor Sybil didn't stand a chance ! bas1 |
Ferdinand is going to Petsmart puppy classes right now! They're great. All the trainers at various Petsmart's that I've talked to definitely know what they're talking about. And the best part is it's all positive reinforcement training. I really don't work with Ferdinand as much as I should on the homework, but he's doing really well so far!!  |
i'm intrested in putting howie in petsmart obiedience class .. how do i go about it and so forth? thanksss <3 |
Just go to the petsmart closest to you. They will have a calendar of when the puppy class starts. It will be that day of the week for 8 weeks (ex: ours started on Tuesday, so it's every Tuesday). Just fill out their form, give them the $99 for the class, and voila! You're ready to go! |
I wish I could put Teddy in a petsmart obedience class but unfortunetly we don't have a petsmart in NYC only a petco and I haven't heard good things about their training classes. And I don't have a car so I can't go to Jersey :( |
Well, If you're looking just for the most basic control on your dog and you're not too worried about consistency, then you'll be pleased w/ PetSmart's training techniques and results. If you're wanting more than that, then I would advise you begin shopping around in your area. |
I really like Petsmart training classes!!!!, Tomorrow is Bengi's graduation. He knows sit, stay, down, shake, and walking in a loose leash (Work in Progress...) |
I think it depends on which PetSmart. The two I've visited in our area have an outside professional trainer come in and teach the classes. I've known several people who are happy with the results they've gotten.:) |
do they have to be a certain age to go? |
My girlfriend just finished the class with her Beagle and LOVED what it did for them - |
Does anyone know what is the youngest age they will take a puppy for training at Petsmart? |
Petsmart is awesome! Cooper was around 3-4months when he went! =) |

I would not judge all Petco classes by one store. The difference is in the trainer not the store. |
Just a quick update, Bella had her first class yesterday at Petsmart. Too early to tell. They use "clicker" training, and for the first class all we worked on was teaching them how to pay attention to what we are saying using the "watch me" method. It's pretty cute to see Bella just staring at me for 10-15 seconds without moving. I will keep everyone posted on her progress. Oh, almost forgot to mention, 4 HUGE dogs in her class (EEEEEEEEEEEKK!) |
The Petsmart training for our 4yr. old Yorkie Poo was useless, but I'm sure it depends on the trainer and how hard you work with the dog. We are starting private clicker training with Crosley and our 4month old puppy Wrigley in November! |

I was wondering if Cooper had all his shots before he went. I don't think they'll have all of them by 3-4 months, but I'm supposed to be taking Howie, my baby, soon but he hasn't gotten all of his shots yet. He's going to get his 3rd round of shots this Friday, but I'm wondering if he'll be okay. The training area is sectioned off from the rest of the store, and the class is for puppies only. Do you think I'll be okay to take him? Or should I wait to have all his vaccines first? Thanks in advance!! |

Cooper didn't have them all at first, but I showed proof that we were in the series, and he finished them before the class was over.. I'm thinking 3 weeks into it or less We had to get a bordatella shot as well |
Thank you. I'm getting different answers from everyone (yes, it's okay -- no, I should wait) and I'm really hesitant now. I've already signed him up for and paid for the class, but I want to make sure it will be okay. Nothing is worth him being sick, and I'm sure the cost of vet bills will be more expensive! But, I would think it's okay since it's all puppies. But, the first class, I'm going to see what kinds of dogs are there, and hopefully he'll be okay. Thank you again for the info!! |
i took riley to classes and i wouldn't recommend them. he was about 7-months old, so he may have been too young. but, i would've rather spent the money on a personal trainer. the class felt like social hour for the dogs. that's what the dog park is for. all he learned how to do was sit, which i think i could've taught him myself. |
I found that it depends on which petsmart. The one where I live...she is top in the petsmart chain (she told me) and she is awesome. I was very pleased and am planning on bringing sparks back for intermediate and advanced and then going on to agility with whatever place she recommends to us once he is ready. suz |
1 Attachment(s) In order to sign up for a petsmart class the pup has to be at least 10 weeks old, and current on shots. They ask that you bring the shot record to the first training session. Leia is 10 weeks old and starts her training on Sunday! :D We're so excited! Attachment 78661 |
Update on Bella Bella has been to three classes now at Petsmart, and she is doing great! I am very impressed with what she has learned, and look forward to each week. |
