chewing okay i have a little problem with my sweet little louie.. i have gated off our family room so he can't go into the rest of house alone. i bought a baby gate. well you would think that was a good idea. apparently louie didn't agree with me. he chewed a hole through the gate and escaped. the first time he did it, i couldn't really see where the hole was because he just chewed enough to push through, and i head him at my bedroom door at 2:30 in the morning whining and pawing at the door for me. i couldn't figure out how he got up all the stairs and out of the room. i thought my son put the gate up to high and he just sneaked under.. the next day when i came home to check on him at 10:00 a.m. he was out and running about and having a good time. this time i saw a giant hole... so my question is what can i use to get him to stop chewing? i have tried the yuck stuff, but after a while he doesn't care. he will begin chewing again... any ideas??? i can't let him have the run of the house because i have an injury and i am in a boot and if he were to get out of the house i would have a really hard time chasing him ... thanks, annette and louie:aimeeyork |
Someone suggested clear deoderant on anything they been chewing on. I use the elcheapo Suave, and it works like a charm on Venus. I've put the deoderant on every bit of wood furniture in my kitchen, the baseboards she started on (oh heck, I did ALL the baseboards in the kitchen), and even the lenoluim floor where she chewed a hole in. She went back to the lenolium one time, for a taste test:eek: She never messes with that spot now, and its been probably 2-3 weeks. I keep her confinded to the kitchen until bedtime. Her crate is in my bedroom. For about 2 bucks....my cheweing problem is over now. Till I find something else to put the deoderant on, lol. When I see her chewing on something new...I put deoderant all over it! |
if the pups would lick the clear deoderant, won't that hurt them? |
Well, several here have used it. Venus only licked it once:eek: Must have tasted bad enough she didn't try again. |
I.m going to try that, since Dixie likes to chew everything even though she has tons of toys lol |
thank you so much .. i had forgotten about that..!!!!!!! maybe i will try it on my fingers and toes also,,LOL LOUIE has become quite a great chewer. everything from my furniture , the gate and the cable cord. i will try it today!!!!!!!!:aimeeyork :aimeeyork thanks a bunch, annette |
I even put it on my cousins boot laces. Venus was chewing on them every time he came over. She has plenty of toys to play with, so thats not the problem. I think this is a "teething thing" for them. |
I would get a wire crate or x-pen. He cant chew through metal. If you get a crate then he could even sleep in your bedroom in the crate. |
Clear deodorant! I'll have to try that. Tiki is confined to the kitchen but loves to chew on the cabinets and any wooden furniture. Ill give it a try for sure! Thanks :) |
