Weight correlated with bladder control? Do you all think that a yorkie's weight correlates with how long they can hold their bladders? my girl is going to max out near 4 lbs, and i am wondering if eventually she is going to be able to hold it 8 hours for my work. you would think that a small body and small bladder would be the same as larger body and larger bladder, comparatively speaking, but i am not convinced. |
I wouldn't worry about that. There are plenty of dogs that small that can hold it. My girlfriend has a chihuahu that holds all day and she is about that size. |
In our experience...Magic who is just under 4lbs can hold it alot longer than Sailor who is over 4lbs...some of this has to do with age...but I think that the older they get the more bladder control they have... |
8 hours at night We just brought our new baby home. He's 12 weeks and about 2 lb 9 oz. He has gone all night (7 hours plus) already. Should I anticipate him being able to hold it for a full day during the day if he's in his crate? My other option will be to confine the crate, leave the door open, and put down puppy pads. Any thoughts? We start our first work week with him as part of our family. I can't quite decide what to do for Monday. |
No, weight does not correlate to bladder control; I can't hold it 8 hours. :D |

So one hour for every month old is the usual way it goes. Some dogs mature more slowly and some have systems not set up to go that long. Best bet is to figure out just how long yours can hold it and knock off an hour. So it she has an acccident at 8 hours then make sure your home in 7. Or if she can only hold it for an hour you need to be around every half hour. Or use pee pads. JL |
