Another potty training problem I know, so many posts about potty training, lol. But here goes  . My 16wk old yorkie is pretty much potty trained except that he really only tells us he needs to go out when he has to poo. If he just has to pee then sometimes he tells us and other times he just goes on the carpet :(. We just added the bells to the door and sometimes he uses them and sometimes not. Does anyone have any tips on how to get him to tell us that he has to go pee? Also i'm not sure if it has anything to do with it being wet outside as it has rained a lot lately. Because before he would more often than not say he has to go outside even if it was just to pee. Thanks!!! |
I have the same problem, except Ferdinand never tells us when he has to go out. It's a pain. I'm sure someone will be able to give you a suggestion! |
I sure hope so. I just want my baby to be 100% housetrained. |
I have the same problem with Venus not wanting to go outside when the grass is wet! I use peepee pads inside. She does great with them. But we're working on letting her go into the living room now. Someone just suggested me keep her on a leash, that way I can watch her better. |
All I can say is that Millie was over 6 1/2 - 7 months old before she reliably asked to be taken out and she basically just stares at us and yips. But before that I would not rely on her to tell me. I just kept up the potty routine and made her go out, whether she wanted to/needed to or not. So at 16 wks, your puppy is still pretty young and it may take awhile before he will ask to go out on his own. At this age you are just trying to develope a preference and a habit of going out. Once the "preference" has been established, they will not go in the house, because they don't want to go in the house and they will start asking to go out. So you need to maintain your diligence in keeping a watchful eye on him, keep him on a schedule and try to eliminate or minimize errors so that he establishes the good habit of only peeing outside. |
Okay I will just keep doing what I'm doing, thanks everyone for your help. |
Don't forget the treats |
