Teddy learned to heal, what tricks does your dog know? Guys I had to post this just now because I'm so excited. Teddy just learned to heel. He learned it in half an hr, I'm so happy. He is a great learner and I used to think he didn't pay attention and he had ADD or something like that but he doesn't! So now he knows how to sit, stay and heel and he's only 3 1/2 months old. My family dog, Cavalier never learned to do all that except sit but even then he wouldn't do it all the time and Teddy does! But then again we got our Cavalier when he was already 1 yr old, so maybe it was too late. But Teddy is great, I'm such a proud mama! lol Has anyone taught their puppies, dogs any new tricks? If so what tricks and how old are they? |
Good for you!! Reece can sit on command..he learned that a few weeks ago..he is 14 weeks now. Also Darla learned to sit early too and about a month ago I taught her to roll over, so now when she sees the treat bag..she starts rolling all over the place lol..she is a silly nut!! I know if I took the time to teach them more they could learn it but Im just busy at this time. My Boykin Spaniel, can shake both paws, sit, stay, down, 'bang' play dead...but thats all and she is 4 now. Dawn |
I have been amazed at how Chico learns names for all his toys. He is 10 mos old now, but has done this for a long time. Whenever he gets something new that he really likes, I give it a name (so far he knows ball, toy, squeeky, flower, paper, monkey, nano, green man, dino, stick, plus other words ) and I keep saying the name as he plays with it. Now I can tell him to go get "whatever" and he'll run all over the house and come back with that exact toy. l've never had a dog before that could do that. Yorkies are so smart! |
Emma does that toy identification thing too. I too, told her what each toy was called, and she'll go and get things depending on what I tell her to pick up! It's great! Emma has been doing tricks since about 12 weeks. She had everything nailed by the time they taught it in puppy classes-everyone thought she was SO obediant. Truth is, I think she's just smart and likes to please...and then there's that whole treat thing ;) She can: Sit Shake (both paws) Wave Lie down Stand (from lie down or sit) Roll Over Bang (play dead) Come Walk on her hind legs Jump vertically Stay My husband is working on "hide" with her, where he's trying to get her to cover her eyes with her paws. Don't know how successful that one it yet, but it would be cute! She also likes the "hide and seek" game, where for example I say, "Go find Daddy!" and she WILL! Once, I said, "Emma, go find Daddy and tell him it's time for dinner!" She ran off, found him, and barked at him twice, then came running back to me as if to say, "I told him, Mommy!" It was the cutest...Don't know if I'll ever be able to get her to do that again! |
Good job, Teddy is doing great! Gracie is now 4 1/2 months. She will do sit, down, dance, shake and will "bring it" when she feels like it! We are working on wait. Most of the time she can handle up to a 15 second wait. How did you teach heel? |
wow yorkies are really smart! lol I'm amazed at how many tricks your yorkie knows how to do. Well after Teddy mastered sit I would tell him to sit and then I would say heel and make him heel by stretching out his two front legs, then I would say good boy and lots of praise. Then I would bring out the treats and say sit then heel and hold the treat on the floor and he would do it. It took a couple times for him to understand but now he does and everytime he sees a treat he does it w/o me telling him lol. The only problem now is when I say sit most of the time he automatically heels afterwards so now I have to work on them at different times so he doesn't get confused. |
Chico did that, too! I was so surprised - I was making dinner and he had a toy and was bugging me to play fetch . I said- "Oh, why don't you go find Steve and play with him?". Then he looked at me, did that cute little head tilt, picked up his toy , jumped through the doggie door and ran out to my husband with the toy! |
Is there a book teaching tricks? I need help ! Piccolo is hyper I can't handle him. |

I just posted about Ty on the post tht says.........WHAT TRICKS CAN YOUR DOG DO..................so if someone can take the time and read tht I would appreaciate it and tht way you can see where Ty is at and I wont repost cause it was kinda long,,,he is 12weeks in the Petsmart puppy class, started at 10weeks the earliest you can and is learning faster then most of the dogs in there and they are 4-5months, after you read my other thread and see where Ty is at can someone please tell me how you got yours to fall down on bang and play dead.........and also wht treats do you guys use.......I dont know how me and my fiance got stuck with the health nut yorkie but he is the pickest darn eater and wont eat anything like pupronis or beggin strips I have been breaking them up into very small bites to treat him and he is now turning his nose up to anything tht is not like a all natural stuff...............he sure got stuck in the wrong the house, he is not give table food, but any suggestions will do we have no idea wht we are going to treat him with at school on WED THANKS christine and ty:animal-pa |
I looked for you thread and didn't find it. How are the puppy classes going? I am thinking of putting Teddy in them but around here is only Petco. What do they teach your dog? |
The other thread was just about Ty and wht he was learning in school etc, We have Ty at Petsmart because tht is wht is close to our house and he is in the puppy class they start them as early as 10weeks and thts how old Ty was and it cuts off at 5months, well I thought there would be some younger pups but he is the youngest and the only boy so needless to say he is the teachers fav, acttually the whole store goes crazy over him, but wht can I say he is a Yorkie and as for wht people say about them being difficult to train etc...............I am a firm believer in its all about wht time and effort YOU put into it, the teacher said because of his age the one thing she just wants us to focus on with Ty is just getting him to listen to us call his name and be alert to us interacting with him, she said Yorkies are nearsided and if they are not right in your face they really cant see anything until about 5months, however pn the first pm they taught him to look at us when we clicked the clicker and if you dont have a clicker you can use a pen tht clicks and you click the pen or clicker and when they look at you you treat them, very very very small pieces of treats, the we worked on sit, which someone exp how to do on thi sthread and we are working on down and it is really teaching him how to socialize with other dogs and humans besided us, he all of a sudden just caught onto the pee pad and we have been accident free and I just really think all in all it is good for him he loves it, his best friend in the class is a 4month old great dane, Ty thinks he is just as big as she is......I will write more after tomorrows class............just work with them a few min every day, they are very very very smart dogs...... Hootie and Hobbs are exceptional at running in the opposite direction when I call them and begging for food. Those are their best tricks. Hobbs knows how to sit and he will do it on occassion, whenever he feels like it. |

lol that's so funny. Teddy does it mostly when he sees me with a treat but now he is doing more, whenever I say it. There are these free training videos that have helped me a lot with Teddy. Someone posted a thread about them a while ago... let me see if I can find them |
My baby, Siu Pao is 15 weeks old..he knows sit, stay, down although he doesn't like to do down and I never insist it so the down is kinda inconsistent :p He will forget all the above commands when we are outside though  He also knows go sleep means time to go in to his crate and sleep. He will sit beside my bed to wait for me to bring his crate in from the living room. He knows let's go for a walk. He knows it when i say "where is the bully stick?" because he will always hide it and when I say that, he will go fetch it :D I didn't train him in particular as he is smart. I just say the word whatever he is doing and he is catching it fast. |
