How many pee pads in the house? I want to introduce Venus to the rest of the house now. She's been mostly confined to the kitchen, except to run to the back door to go outside. Only other time she gets in the living room, is in my lap watching tv. I need to know, do you put pee pads in every room, or how you do this? More than one pad in every room? Last night, I thought if she had to go, she'd certainly go to the kitchen on her pad, man was I wrong. She peed, right in front of me on the carpet! Should I just leave the pad in the kitchen, or put another one in the living room? This is going to be quite interesting! Glad I have a carpet cleaner! |
We have always kept just one pad down for training (and then emergencies) and the boys use it when they need to, like if we're gone, otherwise they go outside. We just put new flooring in the whole house so I bought a litter pan to put the pad in and it works great...saves the floor when they leak through. Someone mentioned last night how they used several pads and moved them from spot to spot until their dog got the idea and they dwindled them down to just one...you may have to try that. Good luck. |
just leave one pad in the kitchen and be very consistent before you let her roam free in the house make her pee in in the kitchen and then check on her every 30 min . That's how I trained royce but man you have to be persistent ans you haveto be very patient but at the end the results are worth it royce associated the pad with peeing if I go to my friends place i take a pad with me and show it to him and he pees right away I even made him pee on his pad on the airplane :) |
I have the pads in one area and they already know where to go. I never move them nor place pads all over the house. As long as you walk your baby to the pad she will learn. Never pick her up and take her to the pad always direct her to the pad and stick to one word. I used Go Potty. |
We have two out for Emma to use whenever she wants. One is in our bedroom, near her pen, and the other is in the guest bathroom-both centrally located in our condo. We have two, just in case someone is over and in the bathroom, or if our bedroom door gets closed-she always has a place to go. When she was younger, we'd keep one in the room with her, and as she got more reliable, we moved it closer and closer to the final pad place-where we wanted them to stay. She was difficult to train until she was 14 weeks or so. Then she just GOT it. We feel she's pretty reliable, but we still have the occasional accident, even though she's just about 7 months old. Hang in there-just be consistent, and remind them every so often where the pads are with your "word". They'll get it! |
Thank you all so much for the advice! I didn't know if I needed to put a pad in every room when I start letting her roam another room for the first time. I had to take my 2 rugs up out of the kitchen cause she peed on one. And she's peed on another one in the back room, right before I opened the back door for her to go outside! The living room, and hall have carpet, in which she isn't used to being on. |
only in one room i never crate trained romeo i just kept him in my bedroom. i left the pads on the floor in a litter box. after he was trained i let him run the entire house. he only has pee pads in my bedroom. i thought it would be a good spot since i can lock him in at night and have pee pads near by. |
With Stump I had one in the kitchen where I kept him and one in my bedroom for at night time. Once he started getting the idea I moved the pee pad to the backdoor. I was originally going to train him to go outside..but He refuses to pee outside. So now we just have his pee pad by the door. He never used the one in my bedroom unless my door was shut. So now that he is a year he can hold it until morning and first thing in the morning he zooms off to his pee pad. Now if he would only go poop on his pee pad!! That little monster! |
Mine have a doggie door, and they use it all the time when they are confined to the kitchen. But for some reason they think the living room is fair game. So when I let them in there in the evening, I move their pee pad in there also. I'm hoping as they get older they won't need it any more, but for right now it's part of our evening decor. |
