Potty trained in kitchen only, how do we start witht the house now? We seem to be 100% pee pad traied, and outside trained if she's in the kitchen or in her crate at night. I have carpet in most of my home. I tried letting her "roam" the living room, and she squatted and peed right in front of me!!! The kitchen, where her potty pads are, is soooo close to my living room! Do I put pee pads in the rooms she'll be in? Or leave it to the 2 I have in the kitchen? Now this morning at 4am, she woke me to go out. I opened the crate, and insead of running to the back door, she run to the front of the house, to the kitchen, and peed on her pee pad! I was hoping this was a good sign. Also I need to know, is there anything that will neutralize the pee smell in the carpet that I might have on hand, so she won't go back to that same spot? Or should I put a pee pad on it? My house is not real big if this helps at all. Any and all suggestions are welcome! |
I had the same problem. I started training mine on a pad in the kitchen. Once she was trained there, I let her into the room next door (the living room) while keeping all of the other rooms blocked off with gates. She did have accidents so you have to watch them like a hawk. I left her leash on her while she was running around so if they sniff around, clap to catch their attention, and drag them to the 1 pad in the kitchen. It took about a week before she got a hang of it. Once she was good in the living room and knew to run back I would let her into the next room. Problem is that I'm trying to outside train her now and took away her pad in the kitchen but she still runs and pees where it used to be. I'm probably confusing the poor puppy but I'll keep trying! |
Thanks so much Pietro. She had accidents the past 2 nights in the living room. So I'll try the leash. I didn't catch her with the accidents, seems she did them while I was in the kitchen, and she was in the living room. This ought to be interesting, cause she's never been on a leash! |
Good luck! I also forgot to mention that Nature's Miracle spray is excellent for cleaning rugs and neutralizing odors so that they keep marking the same spot. You can find it at any Petco or Petsmart. |
I've been spraying the spots with white vinegar and water. Much cheaper, and I had the vinegar on hand here. |
