Help - I just got a 2nd yorkie Hello everyone, We recently added a 2nd yorkie to our family, but here lies some of our issues 1) Our 1st puppy(Charlie) is 11 months and weighs 4.7 lb, while the new puppy(Buddie) is 2 months and already weighs 5.3 lb. Everytime they are together they start grabbing onto each other's ears, neck, tail and growl at each other. Then they start fighting over the same toy, even when we have given each one an identical toy to play with. Is this normal behavior? and how long should I give them to get use to each other? 2) I have read that little puppies should be kept isolated and under a close eye when potty trainining them, i.e. in a x-pen! but since my Charlie is already potty trained, I don't want Buddie to feel isolated or even feel jealous of the other, but we have noticed that when we let him roam around with Charlie, Buddie pees everywhere. Sometimes 3 times within 30 minutes. Should I put him in a x-pen anyways? while Charlie plays around Please help!! Thanks |
well I too recently added a second yorkie. My first (Tigger) was a year old and weighs 5 lbs and the second is 18 weeks and weighs five pounds and they still growl, play fight , sometimes go all out fighting and attempt to steal the toys from eachother. I think that part is normal. for number two.... I have also heard that. But Bear and Tigger have been inseperable since day one and since we have a doggy door Bear (the 18 week old) has learned that by following Tiggers example he can go outside. Because of that potty training has pretty much been accomplished for us. I don't know how exactly we did it, but he's almost fully trained now. During the day we keep Bear in the bathroom and Tigger roams the house, mainly cause Bear's so little that he could , if he really wanted to, get underneath the fence and roam the neighborhood (luckily he's only done that a few times with us home). Since he's going to be a bigger yorkie we're waiting till he gets a bit larger. Also, keep in mind... that the fighting is going to happen and needs to happen to establish alpha. so that part will happen regardless but the toys and other issues will work themselves out (other then potty training.) I hope this helps. |
