Peeing in litter box and Pooping on rug both in bathroom My 3 mo old was doing just fine for the past week going pee and poo in the litter box. Then all of a sudden today and yesterday she would only go pee in the litter box and poo on my bathroom rug. I thought it was because the litter had a poop already in it and she didnt want the litter to be already occupied by a previous poop so I started to remove them asap. Well its been clean and changed and the pooping on the rug is still happening. I have cleaned the rug with enzyme cleaner etc and she still goes on it but a different spot. the litter is in the bathroom and actually closer to the door than the rug so it cant be that she isnt holding it long enough. Dont know if maybe she is using the litter box as her kennel or what now. Today I did find some food in her kennel that looked as if she threw it up. I cleaned it all out and removed and changed the bedding as well. Dont know what it could be. If anyone has some insight on this one I would really appreciate it. Im stumped with this one. |
i am having the same problem. my puppy pees in his litter box but when it comes to pooing, it is different place every day and i have to watch him like a hawk. one thing i do notice, when his litter box has pee and is kind of wet, he will not pee in it for a second time so i have to replace it each time and i guess same goes for the poo. he will only use his litter box when its clean and fresh minus a little old pee smell  and i bring him for walks before and after he eats to the doggie park. he had poo and pee outside before but it is not guaranteed. he will do it when he wants but usually, he will only want to play when outside and i tried to stay as long as 45 mins..he doesn't do anything but as soon as we come back, he poos. |
I used to have the same problem. I use a litter box with a pad inside; no litter. Still, he would not poop if there, only pee. You really need to catch him when he's going outside the box, show your disappointment with a no no, ah ah, etc and then place him in the box and say good boy. I started doing that; it took some time but he's doing pretty good overall. Once in a while he may poop outside the box if it's really dirty, but I try to avoid that. They don't seem to like to pee and poop in the same place and especially in a box, but because they want to please you, eventually they will understand that's what you want, so they will end up doing it. Also, you may want to try getting a bigger box, so he has more space to find a cleaner spot. |
I just dont get it as to why she was doing fine a week ago and no problems with doing both in the litter box. That is just too weird. I tell ya these little boogers are so much like human babies. Its like wow I still cant believe how much alike this puppy and my one year old are. Fussy, picky eaters, whinners etc. For the most part its not as bad as I thought it would be trying to train her. It could be worse thats for sure. I guess we just have to hang in there and hope for the best. |

hehe :) that is what makes a yorkie special! just to share a little coz i think yours is like mine.mine is not a picky eater, whines just a little-not much but boy he is fussy when it comes to finding a place to poop! the spot he loves is the left side of my bed! however i clean that spot, he still likes it so now i don't allow him in to my room during the daytime and the next spot he likes is by the front door or the bathroom rug! either one of those 3 spots but never hsi litter box! and ont op of that, i walk her many times a day just to housetrain her. |
I'm having the same problem with Venus pooping where she pleases in the kitchen. I know my kitchen is kinda large, so I have 2 pads down, still poop where she wants to. When I leave the house, she goes back to the crate now, unless I know I will be gone way too long. I leave her in the kitchen then. The pen I made, she climbs out of when I'm not in the room. But if she stays in it, she poops on the pad in it. I hate to confine her to the pen again, but may have to. Seems "kitchen priveledges" aren't working that well. |
I had the same problem with Timmy until I read some where most dogs won't poop in the same spot they pee. So I started to lay more pads down and sure enough...he would pee on one and poop on the other. Mimi is the total opposite...she'll poop and pee on the same pad. |
Poo News ..... I have the same problem-and Gracie is 3-1/2 years old - i've been real lucky as far as the piddles go - but the poos are a hit or miss. I work full time so her and my Chihuahua have the back door open all the time so they can go out and piddle or poo, or just play (not to worry I have a 6-foot privacy fence that is locked like Fort Knox - but back to the issue) - at least ywo or three times a week I come home from work and Gracie has left me a poo in the sunroom - and she will even do it when the weather is gorgeous - Ally, the chihuahua is completely housebroken - never has an accident - so I thought Gracie would pick up on the routine. But I have not had 100% success. Thank goodness I have ceramic tile on the floor in the sunroom - No matter how sternly I do the "bad girl" routine she looks at me with doe eyes - but she repeats the action. I just think they don't think it is as important as we do !!!! I if had to have Gracie and her poos or another dog and no poos - I'd take Gracie - unconditionally. Good Luck - I hope you can break the code - just know you are not alone. |
dont know what happened today but boy did we have some issues. Sox decided that she would just go pee and poo wherever she pleased. Then she started to get really aggressive and biting really hard. I had to crate her numerous times today to hear all the barking etc for quite some time. So, I leashed her and walked her around with me for about 2 hours and didnt allow anyone to play with her nor her to play with anyone or anything for that matter. It took her about an hour to calm down and eventually she fell asleep on my lap and was a good girl. Still havent got her to go pee in the litter yet since all the episodes. She is really weird some days she is so good and then like today is the total opposite. Such a temper she has and all of a sudden. |
