How do you teach "shake"? I've been working with Jake, and so far he has mastered the commands "sit", "down", "fetch" and "drop it". I want to teach him how to shake hands with his paw, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I was trying today, but I don't think I was going doing it right because he just kept looking at me, doing the "head tilt" lol. |
Hey Ginger knows shake! (It’s one of the few tricks my little diva will do.) The instructors at Petsmart helped us. I think we taught her first to sit, and then while she’s sitting, hold the treat out and say, “shake”. She’ll lift her paw to try to get the treat from your hand and you’ll grab and shake it with your free hand while giving her the snack with your other. |
training to shake hi- we taught Bubba to shake in Puppy class - tell your pup to sitquickly treatand in the opposite hand from the hand you want to shake with hold treathas to be easy chew treat- tap paw- with finger and say shake - keep doing it sometimes you may have to help lift paw at first alittle then treat and praise make sure you say shake when you touch paw and lift- it same kind of thing for hi- five hand palm up treat in other hand take his paw touch your hand say hi five and say good or clap if he even comes close treats and rewards then gradually after awhile they will do it without wanting anything . just on command good luck bubba says you can do it ! bas1:animal36 :animal36 :cheer: :woof: |
When I taught my dog to "shake" (in spanish " la pata"), I first made them learn how to sit. Once they've learned that, with a treat in my hand I'd say "shake" and grab his paw, and the give him the treat...I'd do this several time until they've get it. Once they've learned that, I'd teach them to shake with the other hand...I'd say "shake" and they'd give me one paw, then I'd say "the other hand" and they'll put the paw I have in my hand down and give me the other paw. Most of the time they'll do it right unless they are too excited to get the treat. |
Here is a good site to teach dog tricks. We taught Rosie to crawl using this site. http://www.geocities.com/heartland/p.../indexorg.html. We started to teach her to jump rope since she's a good jumper. Then we stopped because we thought that is probably not good for her legs. She was getting real good at it too:( |
Shake Hey there, I have been trying to teach my Bella the same trick. She has mastered sit, so I have been getting her to sit before she gets her food, and now I am saying Shake and lifting her paw. I figure it will catch on like sit did after a few trys. Good luck! :aimeeyork |
